Will Romney's image increase LDS divorce rates?
Okay, just have to say right off that I am voting for Mitt Romney. However, I just got to thinking about the Romney's at the convention and how some are calling them "America's dream couple."
Yes, the Romney's are good looking, rich, have a great family life in which the wife stays at home or volunteers in the community/church, they are rich, charismatic, he has served in various high LDS Church allings and also, they are rich.
Okay, not to fan any class warfare fires but there seems to be a VERY strong portion of the LDS collective unconsciousness that believes that the more worthy you are the more God will reward you with wealth. Sadly, the other side to that is that if you struggle to make it then you are not making use of your potential. You are as the unwise servant in the Parable of the Talents the guy who ´hides his talent and in the end is cast out and what he had is given to the guy with the most.
Now add to this that whatever we say there is still an attitude that a woman with children should be at home and not work outside the family. See? Ann Romney gets to stay at home. She has a worthy husband who allows her to acheive her highest potential. Well, that is what I suspect may be going on in many LDS women's minds who do have to work in order to make sure the family isn't on the streets.
So am I off here or will the glorified image of the perfect LDS family actually add stress to couples in the Church who are barely making it today?

I know that's a big part of the Mormon psyche, but think about it. That means that the rich people of the world are the worthy people of the world. Does that make sense to anyone? There aren't any bad rich people? Jesus was a carpenter. He didn't seem to spend a lot of time worrying about his fortune. He must have been evil.
I'm the apostate your bishop warned you about.

You lost me at the first sentence.
I should admit that I will be voting for the only sane moderate Republican running this year: Barack Obama.

Do you really think Mormon women could possibly be that shallow and immature? I certainly don't-- and I say that as a feminist who thinks the church has failed its women monumentally, and influenced them in largely-negative ways. I don't have a low opinion of Mormon women, I just think the church's ideas on gender have wronged them greatly.
I don't think Mormon women will be any more likely to aspire to Ann Romney's lifestyle and status than women in the public at large.

And you are in a state where your vote actually counts (well, as long as you don't have any hanging chad issues).

As a measure of this truth, ask yourself how many poor people have their second anointing. Does this not prove superior worthiness of those who are well off?
