Happy Tuesday,

Who are some of the special Mormon people (public and/or on these forums) who you respect, admire, think highly of, or simply just really enjoy reading/hearing/engaging?

A few from me, a never-Mo, to get things going. (Just my opinions  )

BDawg - (A BYU Prof I met at CAF a few years back) Awesome and gentle man!

HiJolly - (Met him at LDS.Net) Super fellow!

Bydor (LDS.Net roots) Great guy!

Mercy N Grace - Love this special woman!

Mr Bokovoy - I have great respect and admiration for this special and brilliant human being

Garden Girl - (MDDB) Just typing her name makes me smile!

Jason Bourne - One of the most sincere, genuine, and honest folks I have had the pleasure of reading/engaging on these boards.

These are a few of mine (Sorry to the many I should have also mentioned).

What say you?

Peace,
Ceeboo

Oh boy, excellent thread!

For putting out high quality apologetics, for which many are constantly apologizing, I absolutely *love* Dan Peterson, Bill Hamblin, William Schryver, and a lesser known apologist whom I've rarely seen post around here, Brother Russ McGregor.

For defending the faith with zeal and passion, and perhaps a measure or two of (necessary) mental defect, none compare to Pahoran, JeffK, William Schryver, and though not technically a Mormon, the interminable Why Me has a special place in my heart.

And finally, a special shout out to my main man, Mormonism's very own Heinrich Himmler, Boyd Packer. Oh, Brother Packer, you bring the love every time you open your mouth.

Respect to my homeys!

I concur fully with your list, Ceeb and would add:

Richard Bushman

Terryl Givens

Brant Gardner

Royal Skousen

Elder Holland -- I know many of you didn't like his Book of Mormon talk or emails that were made public but in my experience, Elder Holland is one of the kindest Christian people I have ever enountered.
Mark Wright

Matt Bowman

Consiglieri

Cinepro

Blixa

Stak

Kishkumen]

Chris Smith

MsJack

Kevin Barney

I could list many more but what I appreciate about the people I have listed is their ability to think deeply about difficult subjects while not being overcome by the subject itself. There is always disagreement -- that is what makes life interesting -- but one can appreciate the thoughtfulness, intelligence, and insight of others regardless of any disagreement on a given point.

I admire anyone who can consistently approach a subject with a measured, thoughtful approach.

I surely do not intend to speak for these fine folks, but........................ they aren't Mormon (Except for maybe Stak. I have always been very suspicious of him  )

I think my mother would have to be #1. To my mind she represents the absolute best that Mormonism has to offer and if she were a public figure, Mormonism would be better off for it. Of course, she's too busy serving the people of her ward as Relief Society prez to bother with Mormonism's public image. I appreciate that about her-- she owns her Mormonism and the way it shows up in her life has somehow escaped the painful self-consciousness that makes Mormonism seem so awkward at times. She also isn't afraid to admit that she is sometimes troubled by things that come from the church hierarchy. She'll still be true blue, but she understands why other people can't be and she's willing to acknowledge when things look band and that she's just relying on faith in those cases. She has grown into her faith nicely since my apostasy. I respect her (if not her beliefs) enormously.

As far as public figures go, Joanna Brooks is growing on me. I don't really understand her version of Mormonism, but I respect that she owns it and all its peculiarities, and that's she's willing to have a conversation about it. I have always adored Robert Kirby and Peggy Fletcher Stack, and still do.

There are several fine Mormons on this board that I enjoy hearing from and respect enormously, with the exception of the few who are on my ignore list. Lol.

Have you ever authored a thread and had no idea of what gems might be displayed?

I have!

Nobody ought to be shown respect because of their religion. Of all the Mormons I know, I respect none of them because of their Mormonism. Above most things, I value truth-telling, magnanimity, and independence of thought. These are not religious traits.

The same, however, is not true of disrespect. I disrespect many people because of what they believe and how they manifest that belief. Of all the Mormons I know, I disrespect many of them because of the way they practice their Mormonism.

Woo-hooh!

I finally made it onto the same list with Elder Holland!

(Which may give some of the more discerning on the board a clue as to the nature of the super-special revelation rumored to be announced in conference this weekend. I don't want to be too obvious about it. Let me just put it this way--I better not see any dissenting votes out there.)

Take that, MDDB.

All the Best!

I'll be raising my arm to the square...but will it be "all in favour" or "in a similar manner"? Oh, the suspense!
