"For those members who have slipped from activity or who hold back and remain noncommittal, we can prayerfully seek for some way to reach them," the 85-year-old Monson told the all-male priesthood during the 182nd Semiannual LDS General Conference. "Asking them to serve in some capacity may just be the incentive they need to return to full activity."

Yep, that's the answer Tommy "Let's All Have Some Pie" Monson, MAKE THEM WORK AT SOME MEANINGLESS ACTIVITY.

christofferson wrote:In the church and kingdom of God in these latter days, we cannot afford to have boys and men who are drifting. We cannot afford young men who lack self-discipline and live only to be entertained," Christofferson said. "We cannot afford young adult men who are going nowhere in life, who are not serious about forming families and making a real contribution in this world."

i am pretty pretty pretty sure that 47% of the men in the church fit this description.

I'm certain they do. I'm also fairly certain most of those vote for Obama.

To be perfectly honest I'd take a calling again, with some restrictions on which ones. Anything that requires bearing testimony for example is out. But at least he's open to being more welcoming and including people who aren't perfectly TBM in the ward structure. Take out the judging and it is a decent community isn't it? I'm assuming calling more inactives to callings would help, so it's definitely a step in the right direction.

Of course it'll have ulterior motives of trying to make you a full tithe-paying tow the line Mormon, but you have to put up with SOME BS when there's some upside too right?

nonsense. he is not open to it all. he is just giving one more assignment to ward leaders to get them to chase their tails and do something that will have zero positive effect and will not reactivate anyone. if he believed this, and it worked, they would go alma the younger on the joint and call an inactive person to be a general authority. i would bet there are many of us on the sidelines that would be great general authorities if we could speak up and tell the truth.

if monson or any of his jocksniffing underlings really wanted to improve activity in the church, he would have another big revelation in conference -

"brothers and sisters, the lord, has spoken. as of today, the church will begin to ordain women to the priesthood, over the next 2 years we will transition to having 50% of all callings, from bishop up, assigned to women, including general authorities. and, brothers and sisters, we would like to invite all gays and lesbians, to be sealed for time and all eternity in our temples. in states where gay marriage is not legal, we will host your civil unions.

in our afternoon session of conference, we will provide a financial report by our auditors. between sessions, our financial statements and quarterly report for the quarter just ended, will be available for download at LDS.org.

we understand these announcements will be unsettling for many members of the church. we hope your faith leads to understanding. With this, we will grow, and we will lead.

now let us rejoice. "

i promise you, if that happened, almost every person on this board, rfm, flak, everywhere, would show up to church. perhaps we would not be full tithe payers right away, but we would go back and endorse that message, before we took a home teaching job for motivation.

I wouldn't. It would still be a boring waste of time.
