LDS apostle Dallin H. Oaks urged Mormons and non-Mormons alike Saturday to protect children, decrying abortion, divorce, abuse, cohabitation and single and same-sex parenthood as harmful to their welfare.
"Children need others to speak for them," Oaks said during an afternoon speech at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ General Conference, "and they need decision-makers who put their well-being ahead of selfish adult interests."
http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/news/55035 ... s.html.csp1. Now, for those of you who are thinking that he decried every type of family situation for children except a Mummy and a Daddy, Dallin neglected to state his position on polygamous marriages. He didn't mention that. Why not?
2. Also, do you know any single parents in your ward who heard this talk? How must they be feeling now?

This is rich coming from Dallin - who is a Celestial Polygamist.
"When I was 66, my wife June died of cancer. Two years later--a year and a half ago--I married Kristen McMain, the eternal companion who now stands at my side."
Jeeze, if they still practiced temporal polygamy, the story of "My Two Mommies" would be relevant rather than a product of "Satan".
I have gay co-workers, gay family, gay friends. All of them just roll their eyes at Dallin. He, like the rest of the geriatric up at the COB are relics of the past. Misogynists and homophobes. They preach nothing but hate and intolerance.
A gay co-worker is married and is raising a child they adopted. I think it is a fantastic thing the child is being raised with love and structure. The child is very well adjusted, much to the chagrin of old "F"s like Oaks.
I'm a product of Utah's "Must have a mommy and daddy" mentality. I was raised by the Utah Department of Family Services from 3 months old to age 12. The State refused to adopt me out to a single parent - and thousands of other children after they were labeled "unadoptable". In 1982 I was the second single parent adoption in the State of Utah history. Now it is more common but still frowned upon.
Oaks and his circle are continuing to propagate hate and intolerance - and children will continue to suffer for it.

He didn't decry polygamy. Oaks is sealed to his first wife and his second wife. He is a Celestial polygamist. I am sure he is anticipating banging two broads in the next life. I wish the media would kick back on this concept every time the church publicly announces they have moved past polygamy over 100 years ago.
