How culty is your religion?

Post by _SteelHead »

Take the survey.

My personal interpretation of my Mormon experience scored:

Rating Total:
90%

Extremely Controlling

This is an extremely high result and we urge caution. The intensity and degree of control that this institution exerts is cause for considerable concern. The mechanisms for deep-seated psychological control are firmly in place and have a high potential to be exploited.

This is not to say that everything about the organization is bad, or does no good. It means that they use methods common to other extremely controlling cults.

We recommend you seek the opinion of a non-affiliated therapist for a professional consultation as soon as possible.

Further, we recommend research of mind control methods, compliance techniques and social psychology to protect yourself from abuses from this and any other organization.

Some of us, on the other hand, actually prefer a religion that includes some type of correlation with reality.

I took this test when it was linked to a message group I belong to. Most people scored quite high. I came out at 89% thinking back to my LDS experience, and 14% on my experience in the Church of England.

So I guess I had somewhat of an unhealthy relationship with the church in terms of my interpretation and experience of it. (Based on Hassan's BITE model)

I would love to know the scores of active LDS.

I think that it's interesting to take this from the perspective of a normal LDS member, and then again from the perspective of a missionary.

A mission is truly a cult within a cult.

I can't see a missionary scoring any less than 97% percent on this thing.

You scored 90%?

You mean, you are a cult?

Well, maybe ...

When taking this survey about how cultish one's church is, I suggest we ponder the words of hymn #19, "We Thank Thee, O God, for a Prophet:"

Sung by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir here.

1. We thank Thee, O God, for a Prophet,
To guide us in these latter days;
We thank Thee for sending the Gospel
To lighten our minds with its rays;
We thank Thee for every blessing
Bestowed by Thy bounteous hand;
We feel it a pleasure to serve Thee,
And love to obey Thy command.

2. When dark clouds of trouble hang o’er us
And threaten our peace to destroy,
There is hope smiling brightly before us,
And we know that deliv’rance is nigh;
We doubt not the Lord, nor His goodness,
We’ve proved Him in days that are past;
The wicked who fight against Zion,
Will surely be smitten at last.

3. We’ll sing of His goodness and mercy,
We’ll praise Him by day and by night,
Rejoice in His glorious Gospel,
And bask in its lifegiving light;
Thus on to eternal perfection
The honest and faithful will go,
While they who reject this glad message,
Shall never such happiness know.

Geez...I mean, I took it in regards to the LDS Church, and scored 90%. And, I probably didn't score the Church as high as some would on different questions. It was an interesting assessment.
