Mobile Devices used during meetings?

I do not attend meetings very often, especially since my boys are adults. I am interested in what is going on during meetings with mobile devices. Are they used during in meetings, how are people using them, are they being used as distractions or supplements to the meeting content or both? Is use going up in meetings? What sort of reactions do those who do not use them have to others that do? I am interested in any feed back on this.

I imagine it varies from ward to ward, but in the last few meetings I've been to mobile devices are all over the place. It even seems to vary from teacher to teacher but sometimes in Elders quorum the use was above 50%.
From memory I'd say that more than half are off topic. Maybe next time I go I'll try to take an anecdotal census on what percentage of users are using them for Scriputes/manuals versus those who use them for angry birds.
I haven't seen anyone confronted for using them aside for a couple bishops discouraging their use over the pulpit.

SMART phones are prevalent, iPads are becoming commonplace.
I would say that more than half the ward have their scriptures on an electronic device now rather than in a bulky 'Quad'. Speakers are now using iPads rather than written notes and their 'Quad'. And there is at least one member of the ward using their mobile device to check out MDB during the consolidated schedule...

Wi fi is being installed in all meeting houses. Pior to that, there was usually a cable internet connection in several rooms which remains. It is limited to Church websites. I'd say there are at least half a dozen devices now in the average US ward being used in any one meeting. Usually to look up scriptures and the like.
So far, I've rarely seen people texting in Church. In Bishop's or Stake meetings, there is texting going on related to the work. I've seen many presidencies operate together by mobile device.
To access the internet at Church, you need that particular meeting house's password.

I heard my YSA ward years back make comments on it. One of the visiting speakers played a "Do you really want an eternal companion who doesn't treat church seriously enough to pay attention" card and everyone loved it and started repeating it around, testimony meetings etc for a while to show their piety. Probably three months later half the people there are on their phones again.
Usually sacrament meetings people are very attentive, it's Sunday school and priesthood where people used to zone out in the good ol days, now they have phones.

At least you get actual usable and good knowledge on your mobile device rather than listening to the same lame blather they dish out .....
