I rather liked it. Aside from the fact that his selectivity of Bible passages in order to build up a Mormon interpretation of God from the Bible and ignoring all else said there, and some other errors of various degrees of seriousness, it is a lovely read. His prose is nice reading. I only really wish it could be a true picture of reality. He writes well. Perhaps I shall write a review of it.

Can someone please give me some background on this Terryl Givens? I'm currently listening to a Kish suggested pod from Phiip Barlow and interested in this seemingly new "thoughtful way"
Dang, yet another type of Mormon that one might be

Listen to Givens' Mormon Stories interview and see if his ideas resonate with you.

That interview of Terryl is very telling, since he opens up into a very personal place there. The best stretch of my mission was serving in his ward for 10 1/2 months, and he seemed very much like the reserved softspoken type. We rarely saw them outside of the 3 hour block and ward activities, but they were always super busy.
Everyone else in that ward had a big personality and were some of the most friendly and quirky (in a very good way) country folks anywhere, so you could actually forget he was there very easily lol. Fantastic ward the way it's supposed to be with no politics, guilt-tripping, the usual bs. After a year there he really didn't stand out as being a remarkable ward presence or having celebrity status or anything like that. He did teach Gospel Doctrine though, so I think someone else had a thread about it, it can be done without the manual if you want to try, but you have to take ownership. I think GD has the flexibility for it, and if your ward isn't a bunch of prick[kicker]s they won't complain about whether you're using 'the manual' or not. We'd sit in his class when there were no investigators at church, and he relied on the scriptures the lesson was about and rarely cracked open or referenced the manual. Very thought-provoking though, remember one lesson about Job and how his friends can be seen as allegorical archetypes and looked at Job from a poetic stance or something like that, going into ancient Hebrew, unique analysis and interpretations from nonmormon scholars, giving life lessons. He was very-researched/authoritative so he could pull it off, that's not something everyone can do lol.

I noticed the MAD crowd loves him.
Funny thing, I decided to go to Sacrament meeting with my wife today. A very orthodox couple in their 60's, of high respect of the ward were the speakers.
The man noted that some area (I did not catch where that was) was having a 50% loss of their returned missionaries. The man noted that he also has a few of his children who are now "faithless" as he put it. He then went on about how he would have done things different if he had to do it over and how those in the audience would be well served to safe guard their own children from future faithlessness.
The answer was to double down on the devil … it's all his blame and he's talking them with the evil world around us, mostly via sexual influences and by keeping kids from TV, movies blah blah blah, we would safeguard them from future faithlessness.
Well of course that's horrible advice and the man obviously has no clue as to why his kids and 50% of those missionaries are most likely leaving.
The good news is it appears the church is indeed catching on, and why the likes of John Dehlin are still members of the church and why the likes of Terryl Givens are finding influence at the Stake High Council levels.
Finally they (the church) appear to be waking up to the fact that Satan and sexual sin is not the problem, shell shocked members, as they find uncorrelated facts about their religion is the enemy.
Looks like the "canopy" of the church is broadening, to … can I call it … a more intellectual, enlightened group of NOM's.

If Mitt fails to fulfill the so called
White Horse Prophecy, I wonder if Boyd will be orchestrating a purge of such members.
Knowing that LDS Inc is PR savvy, there will be no such action should Mitt win, after all Mitt would be the most powerful missionary in the world!

All in the name of their almighty monetary god. They have a golden calf across South Temple street to pay for!
