Shameful MDD thread

This probably should go under the pinned Definitive MADhouse Quote Page, but the entire thread is filled with even more disgusting ignorance that what MDD is so well known for. Nearly everyone in the thread should be ashamed of themselves, not just incompetents like Zakuska:

Hurricane Sandy and the New York Destruction Prophecy

That's right, hope for the deaths of your fellow human beings while you hypocritically claim to be "praying" for them and parsing your millennialist fantasies of destruction. What kind of mentality is capable of making statements like this?

...I have many friends in the projected path unfortunately they are all atheist.

D&C 42:
45 Thou shalt live together in love, insomuch that thou shalt weep for the loss of them that die, and more especially for those that have not hope of a glorious resurrection.

46 And it shall come to pass that those that die in me shall not taste of death, for it shall be sweet unto them;

47 And they that die not in me, woe unto them, for their death is bitter.

Or screwed up jokes like this?

It's targeting Snookie next (what ever will the reality TV junkies do?!)

Or this expert's bloviating:

I think it is just a lot of hype about Sandy...Post Katrina & Ike, governments just want to get everyone out (this tends to create a bit of histeria).

I've lost a week's worth of teaching because the area around my school is still nearly 80% without power. I've not even heard from many of my students--days after the storm. Some I have heard from have lost quite a bit and are asking for necessities like clothing and baby food. I'm not sure how much can be resumed next week since students and faculty in the NYC metro area rely on public transportation. Fire men, rescue teams and the police have managed countless untold heroics; stories of looting are nearly nonexistent in the metro area.

The destruction at the NYU hospital will be hard to assess since not only were patients lives at risk, but a great deal of medical research was lost. Libraries and archives are also especially hard hit, and the public transportation system in Manhattan and other boroughs will be ... months? before it's back online?

It's bad, it will take a long time to fix, but in the mean time people are acting decently toward one another. The only exception to this general "we're-all-in-this-together-and-helping-each-other-out" has been in this shameful thread. Kudos to the MDD mods for locking it before even more foul comments could be posted.

I asked the question just the other day on another thread if someone at the MD&D board had yet expressed the view that Hurricane Sandy was some sort of divine retribution. I thought they would but was too lazy to look for myself. One more reason for me to admire Blixa.

The whole idea of a god that deals retribution for supposed faults is shameful, IMHO. It doesn't play well with modern audiences either, which is one of the reasons why the whole Jesus-is-coming-back-to-kill-everyone idea hasn't been as popular with Christians lately.

On another note, I really hope that the area recovers quickly. I have never been to New York, but I am likely to travel there in the very near future. Also, I have colleagues and students with families from New York and New England.

The MDD thread was locked, with no explanation, after a final post by Zakuska noting a claimed death toll of +65, timed at "15 hours ago".

In fairness to MDD, the conversation is no different to what a large number of TBM's (and others) actually believe. Little Nipper has stated on this board on numerous occasions that God has killed people using weather related methods and that's okay because God is allowed.

Anyone who believes the tale of Noah and the Flood or the Exodus story as literal events is accepting that God has used the elements to kill individuals that were classed as 'unrighteous'.

If you find the conversation at MDD in bad taste then perhaps, if consistency is important to you, you should find the contents of the Bible equally shameful.

What Sandy demonstrates, is that a storms severity is relative to its surroundings, a Category 1 storm would barely raise an eyebrow in Gulf States - but gulf states don't have infrastructure underground.

My emphasis. That is, in my view, precisely the point.

You'd think they'd express a passing concern for their Mormon sisters and brothers in New Jersey, NY & CT. At least something more than their deaths will be sweet.

Oh, Blixa, I am so sorry for what you are going through! Is your home OK? Did you guys have to evacuate? I forgot that you lived in NY. You and your family will be in my prayers. Facebook me if there is anything you need, OK?

I have not read the thread on MDD. It sounds like it is not worth a read. I can't believe how insensitive those comments are. Unbelievable!
