The Mistake On Fast Sunday

Post by _Infymus »

Tonight I had parent teacher conference for both my kids living in West Jordan, Utah. While we waited outside a classroom for a teacher to finish, I wandered the immediate halls seeing all of the stories and creations made by the children in West Jordan.

One thing stood out to me. A child who thought that eating a piece of candy on a “Fast Sunday” was unacceptable.

“This one time I made a mistake. My mistake was I accidentally ate a piece of candy on fast Sunday. I felt so bad. So I told my mom and she said I can try again a different day. What I learned from my mistake was that I should pay attention to the Sunday”.

I felt horrible for this child.

Really I felt horrible.

This is what Mormonism teaches. And this is the brain washing Mormon children have to go through.

The rest of the “Mistakes” board were full of things like: I spilled paint. I broke an egg. I didn't take out the garbage. But this poor Mormon kid.

This IS Mormonism. And I feel sorry for that kid and what he/she has to go through for so many more years being Mormon. Being oppressed. Being taught supernatural BS.

Yeah. “F” Mormonism and “F” Religion.

Kid is probably under 8.................... Religion controlling by guilt since its invention.

Poor kid.

Some of us, on the other hand, actually prefer a religion that includes some type of correlation with reality.

I'm a little confused that a public school would have a "mistakes" board. I agree with your point about the LDS sense of guilt, but I'm surprised that a public school (even in Utah) would require a public confession of guilt by first graders. Even in the Catholic Church confessions are private.

What would be the purpose of this?

Quasimodo, I think there is the expectation for Utah teachers to act En Loco Bishopsi. Thus the expectation to confess mistakes. Posting them on the board is acting En Loco Bishopsi Wifeus.

Yes, when my kids were younger every morning they had to write in a journal (through 2nd grade) they used "kid spelling". It's a bit tough to decipher at first but you get used to it and those journals are just great. It was kind of surprising how many words my kids could use but not spell like this child and the word "atenchen". I never would have gotten as much insight (and amusement) if my kids had only been allowed to use words they could spell correctly.
