Naming storms after God
I just read about "Winter Storm Athena". First, my heart goes out to folks dealing with the aftermath of Sandy, having to gear up for another storm.
I'm surprised at the choice of name for the impending storm. Do they name it after a God because they think it is the Gods who send us storms?
What if a storm was named "Winter Storm Jesus"? Would that offend anyone?

Oh for shame, how the mortals put the blame on us gods, for they say evils come from us, but it is they, rather, who by their own recklessness win sorrow beyond what is given... Zeus (1178 BC)

I definitely vote for Yahweh for the next Big One.
"His chariots of wrath the deep thunder-clouds form,
And dark is his path on the wings of the storm."
Why not?

That's the problem with this supernatural stuff, it doesn't really solve anything. It's a placeholder for ignorance.

When did we start naming winter storms? What's next - Rain Shower Peterson? Clear Skies McGee?

They could start off by pronouncing it "Hey Zeus!"

Re: Naming storms after God
I think they should start naming storms after a belief in no Creator.
