Huge day for me - going to Jesus mall for first time
We are visiting utah and I am going to get my first glimpse of city creek in a few minutes. I have waited a long time for this day. City creek was the final straw for my wife so I get to meet the phenomenon that took her church activity away. I will return and report.

I will head there in the next 30 or so minutes. This mall is a big mess. I had goosebumps going in I was so excited. I am a little disappointed thus far and hope the trout save my expectations.
I doubt the mall dollars could have gone to the hoard of needy at the soup kitchen a couple blocks away. This is money well spent for all the saints of the world to enjoy.

I was very disappointed with the mall. Thinking of all the money that was put into the place, one would assume it would have more character than an office park.
It doesn't.
It's going to fail. :/

Do you get to have your picture taken sitting on the "profits" lap, and give him your wish list?

I have on good authority that City Creek is leaking money like a sieve. Hopefully they can make it up with holiday shoppers.
City Creek is a reminder of the ridiculous largesse and over spending of the pre economic crisis. Its a beautiful place, but a sad waste of money and a symbol of greed. No one thought the bubble would burst. Its a shell of what it was supposed to be with empty stores or really cheesy stores that sell board games and cell phone accessories. I can't see the really pricey stores like Boss surviving.
Ground was literally broken on this project at the worst imaginable time. Talk about proof of modern day revelation. If God was steering the ship, he wouldn't have invested such a large amount on luxury shopping and condos right about the time everyone was going to lose their shirts.
Of course the sheeple, like to point out that the construction created jobs and put people to work and that was proof of god's foresight. The church spent $5 bil to provide a revolving door of low paid construction workers and immigrant workers a job for a few months. The Lion's share of money flowed uphill to the big corporate construction companies who have ties to the church and its leaders. I am sure a few LDS elite got some favors from the LDS church from the CCC project, but they are hardly the job saviors the members portray them to be.
Tapirs... Yeah... That's the ticket!

Salt Lake already had the Gateway as a destination mall. The Gateway has a section of restaurants, some very upscale, that are very popular and have a young, energetic vibe. It is closer to the Westside music venues (the Depot, In The Venue...to name a few) and to the Energy Solutions arena. The place is always popping on the weekends. The whole feng shui of the place feels good. It is laid out and spaced right.
City Creek feels cavernous and downright bland to me. The central courtyard is nicer, but it still feels constricted. The place doesn't flow and there is nothing around to draw for nightlife except a staid Mormon temple. Young professionals with money do not find anything enticing about Mormonism at all, and what are they going to do there...sip root beer?
If you want a hip, happening place, you do not invite the friggin' Cheesecake factory as your anchor restuarant. The CF is for the mindless suburbanites. God, I hate that place. To be fair, I was forced to eat there once and it is quite nice inside.
I went to CC on a Saturday after the Utah game vs Washington, popped into the Allen Edmunds shoe store and about had a heart attack. The shoes there were $275-$350 a pair. Damn they were nice, but $350? I make good money, but I still have the cheapness of Mormonism in my blood.
The place will survive, but I suspect that the high end shops will close up and move out to make room for the craftsy kitsch that Mormons love.

Please interview the workers in the Mall about whether or not they are happy about having a job and if they would rather be unemployed.
I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world.
