Scott Gordon, president of the Foundation for Apologetic Information & Research, or FAIR, a volunteer Mormon anti-defamation group, said it never hurts for church members to respectfully question traditions.
"It's a good thing to have people once in a while question what polices and practices are cultural and what things are important or inspired of God," said Gordon.
He thinks this campaign has more merit than the "wear pants to church" campaign the group, called All Enlisted, launched last month. He called that idea silly, but said it wouldn't hurt to let women lead prayers at general conference.
In regard to the gender inequality the group speaks of, Gordon said the church should certainly look for ways to make women feel more inclusive, but not at the expense of diminishing the role of men in the Mormon faith.
"Women benefit when men are actively involved in church," Gordon said.

Re: FAIR's Scott Gordon on "Let Women Pray"
The Church is already just a coven made for women. I have to wear a suit and tie to Church, signs of female oppression to restrict us and make us all generically the same. Plus, Ward and Stake councils are dominated and controlled by the Relief Society. By having men hold the priesthood and lead in the prayers, it is men who are exposed far more to the commandments or wrath of God; women get a free ride. Need I say more?

Please don't. It's just too idiotic.

those women!
Just the other day I told my coffee getter (wife) that she can pray all she wants as long as my food is on the table!
Seriously though, Scott Gordon is right. It is fantastic that women can have a fun little project where they can practice civil disobedience. I am sure they will grow out of this phase. I can remember when my coworker turned 40 and wanted a corvette. He grew out of that phase in a few months.

Mormonism really does emasculate men while fostering misogyny.

Try wearing a dress and see how far that gets you.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

Wow. I, for one, am extremely grateful for this MAN's permission to women for us to seek prayer rights.
No one is asking to diminish the role of men in the church. The only way that can be done is to take the priesthood away from them. No one is asking for that. Making women ecclesiastically equal does not diminish man. It lifts everyone.
I would question the assertion that women benefit when men are actively involved in the church. Benefit in what way?

That's the rub though. When it comes to prayers at General Conference, it is a zero sum game. There are a set number of prayers. To have women to utter some of these prayers would be to diminish the number of men who utter these prayers. Sounds like an example of the exception swallowing the rule.
