According to this article, Mormons have no conflict with the Big Bang. Is that the way it is in your neck of the woods?

Mormons OK with the Big Bang!
I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use. - Galileo

My experience has been that Mormons don't have a problem with astronomy or the age of the universe. Well expect Elder Nelson maybe with his exploding printing press comments. On the other hand I know people who don't believe evolution and believe that dinosaur bones came from other planets.

Re: Mormons OK with the Big Bang!
My experience with TBM members is it's mixed. Those with advanced scientific schooling tend to accept things like an old earth, the Big Bang, evolution, and so forth. Those without it tend towards hard core Adam & Eve belief, the Flood really happened, evolution is The Devil, the Big Bang is ridiculous, etc.
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

Re: Mormons OK with the Big Bang!
I know you mentioned the Big Bang specifically, but the Big Bang tends to go hand in hand with other scientific origins theories, such as evolution. If a person doesn't believe the theory of Evolution, they sure as hell aren't going to believe in the Big Bang. There could be oddball exceptions to that statement, but they'd be few and far between.
This Pew Study presents data showing Mormons being second only to Jehovah's Witnesses among religions in America in terms of proportion of members who reject Evolution (75% of Mormons rejecting it). It's hard to believe that Mormons disbelieve Evolution at great rates than evangelical Christians, but there it is.
