http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/02 ... snhp&pos=2Clint Eastwood has joined more than 100 Republicans in arguing that gays and lesbians should be allowed to legally wed, the advocacy group waging the legal battle against California's ban on same-sex marriage said Thursday.
Manny Rivera, a spokesman for the American Foundation for Equal Rights, confirmed to NBC News that Eastwood had signed the brief to be filed with the Supreme Court in the Proposition 8 case. Calls and an email placed to representatives for the Oscar-winning actor and director were not immediately returned.

They can be legally wed now in every state. However, there is no reason for any state or THE state to recognize such marriages.

There is no reason for a State to recognize any marriage.

On the contrary, there are plenty of reasons for THE state to recognize such marriages:

At the risk of contradicting myself, I'd have to say I'm with you on this one. Marriage is a social institution, not a political institution, in my opinion.

I don't know about anyone else, but I want the state to recognize my marriage for tax and probate reasons (among others), but that's just me.

The recognition of marriage by the State does not serve the State.
Individuals want lower tax burdens, but that means less money for the State, which means less public monies for public general needs.
