I told her to ask her parents and report back to the class. She came back and said, my mom said "No, I'm not a Lamanite." Her family was Italian that went to Argentina for a couple generations and then to America. I felt embarrassed. Now after understanding what a Lamanite is, I feel even more embarrassed.

Lamanite is the Book of Mormon's version of the word "Gentile".
Anyone who's "really" Mormon intellectually and morally speaking knows this.
The Title Page did not need to change. It was changed to give less foder to morons like you who cheer with the enemy's of the Faith. Of course, personally still find it unnecessary because a 100 years from now you'll still be belittling the Church on the issue, despite it trying to be MORE CLEAR for you. You'll belittle and misrepresent it still because it had this terminology historically, just as you do for other issues that the church has changed or clarified (well your ideological ancestors and anti-mormon converts and brothers will).
Lamanites
See also Book of Mormon; Laman; Nephites
A group of people in the Book of Mormon, many of whom were descendants of Laman, the eldest son of Lehi. They felt they had been wronged by Nephi and his descendants (Mosiah 10:11–17). As a result, they rebelled against the Nephites and often rejected the teachings of the gospel. However, shortly before the birth of Jesus Christ, the Lamanites accepted the gospel and were more righteous than the Nephites (Hel. 6:34–36). Two hundred years after Christ visited the Americas, both the Lamanites and the Nephites became wicked and began to wage war against each other. Around A.D. 400, the Lamanites completely destroyed the Nephite nation.
