One other good point that Alter Idem brought out on my board in this discussion is that in her opinion, women who have been through the temple already hold the Melchizedek Priesthood based on their current temple covenants. Based on how women routinely administer to other women in the temple, I agree with this observation.

I disagree, though I could be technically wrong - I haven't done initiatories in a very long time and can't recall the wording.

However, that aside, the reason I don't like this line of reasoning is because I feel it is a barrier to ordination. If women feel they already hold a form of priesthood for the specific purpose of serving in the temple, this may be enough to placate them into thinking they are equal to men.

I don't believe women are ordained to the priesthood in the temple for the simple reason that the LDS church denies that women are ordained to the priesthood. There are numerous LDS manuals, conference talks, etc. that say things to the effect of, "Though women do not hold the priesthood, they're still very important to us because XYZ."

Even if they were ordained to the priesthood, ordination without office or the ability to perform ordinances outside of the temple doesn't exactly do women a lot of good. That would be like a Protestant church ordaining women and then refusing to actually appoint them anywhere as pastors. Furthermore, the church's policy is that women with children under the age of 18 aren't allowed to serve as temple workers. If I joined the LDS church tomorrow, I wouldn't have the opportunity to perform any of these ordinances for at least 19 years, minimum. So even these few ordinances that women are allowed to perform are severely restricted from them.

(In case you were wondering, men with children under the age of 18 can still be temple workers, even if it's the woman who works full-time and the man who's a SAHD.)

lol bossed around.

Did any of you go on missions? I don't recall any bossing around by anyone except perhaps the mission president, bishops, or area presidencies.

Zone and district leaders never did bossing around of anyone.

Simply put, while the change is long overdue, you can't go from wearing pants to praying in conference to ordination. I think there need to be a few intermediate steps between 'pray in GC' and 'ordain women'.

Yeah, Elohim is probably going to need a few more decades to get used to the idea of equality.

Indeed!

But this is true only if Elohim is still in charge up there.
