First Body Blow to the Left in General Conference
thrown by Boyd K. Packer (who else?) in the second talk of the first session. Elder Packer warned the entire Church to beware of what he called "the tolerance trap."
Little else need be said here, except that this is one of the places where the gospel rubber meets the Babylonian road and where we "choose ye this day" that which we are willing to recieve, the degree to which we will follow the Lord's living oracles, and the level of comittment and conversion we are willing to develop and nurture regarding the restored gospel.

Sounds like you're getting your 10% worth. Who else but a prophet and seer could have come up with that?
Anyway, I hope the new generation of Mormon Studies students are watching closely and the TBMs are willing to correct their leaders before it goes to the secular candidates. Hasn't the Church funded a couple of these Mormon Studies Chairs? Isn't the support for Mormon Studies from a leadership standpoint one big plea to bait the rest of the world into "the tolerance trap" towards Mormons?

Many of the best minds of the late 20th century, but without his mantel of divine authority.

Well, thanks again for ripping the mask off the MDB narrative and exposing, yet again, why the Bradford coup was so roundly applauded and approved by the secular enemies of the Church. Secondly, I see not a shred of evidence anywhere that the "Mormon studies" movement that displaced apologetics at NMI ever had or has now any support from the Brethren.
That's the posse meme, I know very well, but it lacks what it most desparately needs - evidence.

Remember Zaire and the 'rope-a-dope' strategy, Droopy?

The tolerance trap? Lol. Do these guys never learn? Did they decide that since their position on "negroes" during the civil rights era was such a big hit, let's find another group of people to single out for ridicule. But lets not just declarevwar on that group of people, lets also declare war on tolerance for those people. Because a policy of intolerance is always a good strategy for organizations.

I have zero tolerance for elder Packer and his evil mind. The man claims to be prophet. He's no prophet. He claims to be seer. He's no seer. He claims to be a revelator and he has no revelations from a divine source to speak of. He is nothing but a parot spouting off the same old garbage Mormon leaders have been doing since they first began to pollute the earth with their noise and false claims.
The world gave a body blow to Joe Smith when they killed him. The world now gives Boyd KKK Packer-ass a body blow by ignoring him. He is an insignificant old man with a black heart. I hope he dies a painful death.

Re: First Body Blow to the Left in General Conference
Boyd K. Packer's invective against homosexuals is especially timely (and disturbing) given that, within the last week or so, enough additional Republicans have "evolved" such that the majority of the members of the US Senate now support gay marriage.
First the Republicans reject the Mormon Mitt Romney, then they renounce their former, strongly held, views on gay marriage. If even the Republican Party is more progressive than the Mormons on this issue, perhaps it is time for the LDS Church to re-assess its stance here.
In case BKP has not has his hearing aid turned on lately, a fast growing majority of Americans now support gay marriage. When one polls the under 30 demographic, the majority is substantial, something like 80%.
What will BKP say when the right to same sex marriage becomes the law of the land?
Does BKP not realize that he is simply reinforcing stereotypes that are harmful to the LDS Church and embarrassing to many Mormons?
Does he not realize that he is providing fresh ammunition to those put upon members who have pretty much had it with the geriatric, do nothing LDS Leadership and just need that last little ridiculous public pronouncement to call it quits?

Re: First Body Blow to the Left in General Conference
Perhaps BKP would prefer that members not be tolerant of homosexuals, but it is plain as the scowl on his face that the CHURCH has to tolerate a growing number of members and potential converts who are tolerant of homosexuals. It is the only way forward with the younger generation.
Maybe the Ensign version of BKPs talk will be softened. A true prophet should see what's coming down the road.

Many of the best minds of the late 20th century...
The very best being Trey Parker's, in the South Park "Museum of Tolereance," which I admit was kind of funny, though not outstanding. Other heavyweights? Billy Grahm's "The Sin of Tolerance."
yet again, why the Bradford coup was so roundly applauded and approved by the secular enemies of the Church
Enemies of the Church applauded Bradford for creating an enviornment that will be tolerant towards Mormons?
A little in early in the mornin' ain't it Droopy?
Critics mostly applaud the "coup" because of the personailities of the apologists, but to some extent, they may think that Mormon Studies will be less tolerant of Mormons than outright apologetics. However, outside of BYU, the hope of the Church is that a movement interested in the internal logic of the Mormon worldview will investigate Mormonism less harshly than a throrough-going naturalistic account, if not outright sympathetically. Of course, this isn't good enough for the apologists who currently believe the only real scholarship possible is apologetics in favor of the traditional, anglo-male interpretation of their sect. But church leaders are somewhat savvy, and support Mormon Studies, particularly for its influence outside of Provo. I'm sure if the brethren had their choice, the US government would fund research programs throughout the United States dedicated to whitewashing LDS history and re-defining archeology based on the assumption that Joe Smith was a prophet and the Book of Mormon is true. That might be the only solution good enough for you and the traditional Mopologists, but the Brethren have a real church to run and compromise.
