With the increased numbers of missionaries, I would expect this to happen again.

They weren't missionaries, they were singles ward reps, in jeans. I have no idea their "calling".

We've gotten missionaries over the years. I've tried, in general, to be nice to them because they're so young and so many people are mean to them. I don't want to be one of their many "missionary persecution stories" they write letters about. But the one time they were standing on the porch, being snoopy snoopers, about the very same daughter when she was about ten years old, crossed the line. It was too much for the DH, having two strange young men at the front door asking questions about his 10 year old daughter. He cussed at them, mightily. They skedaddled.

ETA: which by the way, is also how I knew chickie-poo last night was lying. We've gotten missionaries over the years asking for my daughter BY NAME. You don't send missionaries several times over a couple of decades, and then come around acting like you don't know she's never been baptized.

Cool!

Weird though, I would have guessed that he would have gotten you three feet of nothing!

It looks very nice and I really like it.

On a slightly more serious note: I think it is awesome (and speaks extremely highly of him) that he would get you that gift!

Peace,

So, not wanting to deny assistance to anyone being chased by wolves, I answered it.

No, what it was was two members of the ward looking at the membership record to see if they can find any less- or non-active members they could try to reactivate. It's nothing more sinister than the ward leadership promoting reactivation efforts.

Actually missionary record keeping is pretty terrible. More often than not, when an investigator stops showing interest the missionaries don't update any paperwork they might have produced. They usually just leave some kind of record showing they taught so-and-so this or that discussion. When missionaries move, some stuff survives, some stuff doesn't. Missionaries often go digging through old paperwork just looking for information on old investigators they can go check up on. Membership records tend to be more durative, but the information in them is rarely kept up to date, and errors often creep in. Members have been known to be taught the discussions all over again, and non-members have been known to be given callings without ever being baptized. I highly doubt there was anything deceptive going on. The kind of event you mentioned is commonplace when inexperienced ward leadership decides to emphasize reactivation.

Maybe, but they didn't need to lie about knowing my daughter in order to ask their questions. They could have just said that is what they are doing.

It wasn't their visit that bugs me, it is lying about knowing my daughter, and that Mormons are still keeping tabs on her. She is not baptized, so I don't know why they are keeping any records about her at all, showing up with made up stories, and making notes about someone they have never met.

It's just weird, to me.

She's never been an investigator or a member. I'm fairly certain they just keep coming around because I had her blessed at a few weeks old. (My mistake, which I wouldn't have done if I had known it would mark her as a missionary target for her whole life.) That, and the numerous Mormon members in my family, who see it as their duty to keep sending missionaries to my doorstep.

I've read on LDS forums that children who were blessed, but never baptized, get dropped off Mormon records at 18. I guess that is a internet type of urban myth. They moved her record to a singles ward! She shouldn't even have a record, as she is not baptized.
