My interpretation of "hot drinks" would also include hot cocoa, as well as decaffienated teas and coffees. Also, recent studies have shown that one can of an energy drink has substantial amounts of caffiene, much greater so than a cup of coffee of the same size. Makes me wonder why leaders of the church hasn't added those things to the w.o.w. seems to fit the criteria.

The revelation regarding the word of wisdom was given as counsel and not commandant. At some point, this changed.
It also encourages the use of beer. At some point this changed.

There seems to be no official revelation changing this, making it more an issue of policy than doctrine. It is also nigh on impossible to pin down the "when" of these changes outside of noting they seem to be added to differentiate the saints from the gentiles after the abandonment of polygany. Also, there seems to be strong correlation with the temperance movement and the 18th ammendment, to the adoption of the wow as a commandant and the total prohibition of alcohol.
It is better to be a warrior in a garden, than a gardener at war.

Some of us, on the other hand, actually prefer a religion that includes some type of correlation with reality.

Clarification on the W.o.W

Caffeinated tea is bad, mmm 'kay?

However, the church doesn't mind if you gorge yourself on cheesecake and orange soda, so go nuts. You can be a fat pig a couple hours from a coronary so long as you don't drink tea. Remember that.

That thar's some fine wisdom, let me tella. Fiiiiiine wisdom. Yep.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

Only fools follow the Mormon word of wisdom.

WoW is more about obedience more than it is about a so called health code.

Why is it ok to drink cola drinks(recently announced) but coffee and tea at room temp or below is not?

Tea and coffee seems to have been specifically mentioned as far back as 1842:

Hyrum Smith, brother of the Prophet, wrote: “And again, ‘hot drinks are not for the body, or belly;’ there are many who wonder what this can mean; whether it refers to tea, or coffee, or not. I say it does refer to tea, and coffee.” (“The Word of Wisdom,” Times and Seasons, 1 June 1842, p. 800.)

Do you keep the word of wisdom?

No.

I eat meat regularly and not only during winter or cold.
As do the majority of Mormons.

Can anyone show where Church leaders have clarified that it's okay to eat meat often, in times of plenty and when its warm?
That said, with the Book of Mormon, we are not dealing with a civilization with no written record. What we are dealing with is a written record with no civilization. (Runtu, Feb 2015)
