“Occult Context of Joseph Smith’s 1823 Discovery of Gold Plates"

Post by _Dan Vogel »

New Video by Dan Vogel: “Occult Context of Joseph Smith’s 1823 Discovery of Gold Plates”

Description: The purpose of this video will be to reconstruct the original story and restore it to its folk magic and treasure seeking context—a part of the story the average Mormon is woefully unaware.

I've just listened to a few minutes so far-- huge difference and improvement in the tone of the narration. Great job.

Text form trans-script?
Or transcript...
- Whenever a poet or preacher, chief or wizard spouts gibberish, the human race spends centuries deciphering the message. - Umberto Eco
- To assert that the earth revolves around the sun is as erroneous as to claim that Jesus was not born of a virgin. - Cardinal Bellarmine at the trial of Galilei

He gets asked about that frequently, Ludwigm. So far he does not produce them in any format outside the videos. (At least that was the response I last saw from him.)

While I appreciate the videos, I too would like to see a text version of these productions.

Boring....

Every kid on the planet in small towns have always gone treasure hunting.
Joseph was a little different because he saw things and was successful a few times.

Further, things like dowsing, etc. etc. in those day's weren't considered "occult", they were normal folk practices. by the way, there are Corporations that still "dowse" today, and they are successful.

You're getting more "bigoted" their Vogel? "Occult"? Really???

CFR that Joseph was successful "a few times" at finding treasure (prior to his claim of finding golden plates).
That said, with the Book of Mormon, we are not dealing with a civilization with no written record. What we are dealing with is a written record with no civilization. (Runtu, Feb 2015)

What's boring is the predictable non-response from you. I can overlook the bad grammar and spelling errors, but the lack of content in your posts is what stands out.

Except that Joseph was not a kid when he did his money digging.

I watched the whole thing and thought it was very good. I like that the pace seemed a bit faster than past videos (any faster would probably be too fast). Well done.
