The Supreme Court says legally married same-sex couples should get the same federal benefits as heterosexual couples.

The court invalidated a provision of the federal Defense of Marriage Act Wednesday that has prevented married gay couples from receiving a range of tax, health and retirement benefits that are generally available to married people. The vote was 5-4.

Why does Satan keep winning?

If you are a Mormon who has fasted and prayed for a positive outcome, how will you rationalise that your prayers and fasting failed?

Yep.

"The Supreme Court has dismissed a closely-watched appeal over same-sex marriage on jurisdictional grounds, ruling Wednesday private parties do not have 'standing' to defend California's voter-approved ballot measure barring gay and lesbians couples from state-sanctioned wedlock. The ruling permits same-sex couples in California to legally marry. The 5-4 decision avoids for now a sweeping conclusion on whether same-sex marriage is a constitutionally-protected 'equal protection' right that would apply to all states. The case is Hollingsworth v. Perry (12-144)."

Sort of. Supreme Court kicked the case on standing and instructed the Ninth Circuit to dismiss the appeal, which means the Cal. District Court's opinion invalidating Prop 8 will stand. Meaning the LDS Church lost the Prop 8 battle big time. Same-sex marriage is now legal in California, and those same-sex marriages must be recognized as valid by the federal government. Am historic victory for marriage equality today.

Decision was based on equal protection, which opens the door to challenging the tax exempt status of para-religious institutions (universities, hospitals, etc.) that discriminate of the basis of sexual orientation.

Glenn Beck is worried about devout Muslims having 3 wives. Will he be worried if the Prophet announces the return to polygamy?
