Mormonism Doctrine According to Rambo
Mormonism Doctrine According to Rambo
With all this changing in doctrine I am starting to wonder what I knew as doctrine as a Mormon and what I knew wasn't doctrine. I lived my first 28 years of my life in Mormonism so I think I had a pretty good idea of the doctrine. Went on a mission as well. Served as a ward clerk and the executive secretary.
1. We can become gods (little g). Have our own planets someday and create spirit children for this planet. Obviously you wouldn't be a god if you didn't have your own planet or planets.
2. Jesus died on this planet which was the most wicked planet to kill him. He suffered for all the sins on this planets and all of other Gods planets.
3. God lived on a planet that was around the star Kolob. All the other planets get it's light or power through Kolob.
4. This world will eventually be celestialized and become as a urim and thummim.
5. There will be polygamy in heaven. Not practised right now though.
6. Blacks receiving the priesthood was a policy change and not a doctrinal one. Therefore there was no change in doctrine. It still seemed kind of racist to me though.
7. We are allowed to drink caffeine. I went by what we told investigators what they had to do to get baptized. We asked them not to drink coffee or tea. We didn't ask them to stay away from caffeine.
8. The second coming will happen in Missouri. A place called Adam-ondi-Ahman. There will be a huge sacrament meeting there. This is the same place were the garden of Eden was too. Noah's arc is how they got to the middle east.
9. There are 3 levels to heaven. There are also three levels in the highest heaven the Celestial heaven. To get to the highest one you have to be a good Mormon married in the temple and have a current temple recommend. The lower ones would be ministering angels.
10. Outer Darkness is where the Sons of Perdition go. These are the people that absolutely knew the church was true and they denied it. I heard it was like looking at the sun and denying it.
11. The main reason for the WOW was because God told us to do it. It's all about obedience. God told you not to drink green tea even though it is good for you. It's more important to be obedient to God.
12. It is doctrine if it has the church logo on it.
This isn't the doctrine that was taught a lot but as far as I am concerned this was doctrine when I was a Mormon. I didn't see the point of going over the obvious boring doctrine.

Yup. In the 20 years I was a member, each of these were taught in some form or another.

If you read the list above you can see why Mormons are not considered Christians. Chritians don't want anything to do with most of the beliefs above.

I was taught every one of those items... And more.

I remember being taught this, but I never had a clue as to what it was supposed to mean. Any ideas?

D&C 130:6-9:
The angels do not reside on a planet like this earth; But they reside in the presence of God, on a globe like a sea of glass and fire, where all things for their glory are manifest, past, present, and future, and are continually before the Lord. The place where God resides is a great Urim and Thummim. This earth, in its sanctified and immortal state, will be made like unto crystal and will be a Urim and Thummim to the inhabitants who dwell thereon, whereby all things pertaining to an inferior kingdom, or all kingdoms of a lower order, will be manifest to those who dwell on it; and this earth will be Christ’s.
I was taught two things:
1. The planet God lives on is a giant U&T. He uses this U&T to see what's up on Earth.
2. When this Earth becomes a giant U&T, it will be like a giant crystal ball that will let it's inhabitants see what's going on in the lower kingdom. This means the Earth will become the Celestial Kingdom.

Re: Mormonism Doctrine According to Rambo
I actually find this U&T Earth idea fascinating and would love to explore it more. I may do that. What I find so interesting is that it supports a model of the Mormon god I've had for a while: Superior Technology God. OK, I admit, it's a dumb name, but I think it has some validity.
My loose thoughts are this: God has a physical body, thus, he is bound by the physical laws that govern all physical bodies in the universe. It appears that God is able to overcome many of these physical laws (for instance, answering prayers instantaneously at a great distance) and is also helpless in many ways (can't stop the tsunami in Indonesia). I propose that God is simply in possession of superior technology and understanding of that technology; and while that technology is superior, it is also limited in some ways (thus, his inability to solve all problems).
I'm not suggesting I believe in God, or find Mormonism's claims all that tractable. But I am suggesting that the Superior Technology Model of God is at least as representative for Mormon God as any other model proposed.

What did you guys learn about murderers?
I have been taught two different things at church.
1) Murder can never be forgiven (cannot be covered by Atonement). The person has to give up their own life in restitution and MAYBE can pay for their sin.
2) The Atonement can cover anything (except denying the HG) and we just don't know, can't judge. So maybe murder can be forgiven.
Which is the actual doctrine of the church?

D&C 42:18 "18 And now, behold, I speak unto the church. Thou shalt not kill; and he that kills shall not have forgiveness in this world, nor in the world to come."
2) The Atonement can cover anything (except denying the HG) and we just don't know, can't judge. So maybe murder can be forgiven.
D&C 76:40-44:
"40 And this is the gospel, the glad tidings, which the voice out of the heavens bore record unto us—
41 That he came into the world, even Jesus, to be crucified for the world, and to bear the sins of the world, and to sanctify the world, and to cleanse it from all unrighteousness;
42 That through him all might be saved whom the Father had put into his power and made by him;
43 Who glorifies the Father, and saves all the works of his hands, except those sons of perdition who deny the Son after the Father has revealed him.
44 Wherefore, he saves all except them—they shall go away into everlasting punishment, which is endless punishment, which is eternal punishment, to reign with the devil and his angels in eternity, where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched, which is their torment—"
Which is the actual doctrine of the church?
Both and neither. Apparently, God got confused somewhere between D&C 42 and D&C 76.
