Believed you would inherit your own planet - Antimormon lies

Post by _cwald »

Yes, it is now official. The reason Mormons today believe/believed that they would become gods and get their own planet is because of anit Mormon lies.

Apologetics at it worse - again.

On this thread, http://www.mormondialogue.org/topic/61558-our-own-planets/page-2 you have all the faithful up in arms because one poster asked why we no longer believe this doctrine. this is thread is chuck full of crazy, and some of the worst apologetics EVER. This is what happens in apologetics when a current prophet of the church goes on television and lies about what the LDS church believes. Apologists and the faithful have to lie and deceive in order to defend the church. It's all about defending the kingdom...integrity be damned. Blatant lies...anyone who has grown up in the church, knows that Mormons believe they will be gods an get to create their own worlds. How can folks keep arguing about this?

Enjoy.

Mormons do not believe we will get our own planet. That is the official position of the Church as communicated to the world.

The doctrine is that we can become like Heavenly Father. This whole "your own planet" stuff cheapens that in my estimation. We ARE our own universes already and can become more, infinitely.

This quote here pretty well sums up the argument...

Storm Rider

This is one idea where the anti-Mormons have won; in fact they have been so successful that we have LDS that believe it. No where is the Celestial kingdom described so completely that we know what we will be doing for eternity. For me this teaching has never rung true and is incomplete. We don't know what everyone will be doing. What we do know is that we will dwell in his presence. Is there any need to say more?

Tacenda wrote; Guilty as charged, I believed the anti rhetoric, that included quotes from church leaders. It bothered me so much, for instance how would a family be together if they were on different planets? And the church is using this (families are forever, not get your own planet! ) as a great incentive to go to the temple. But if they do go to the temple, they'll progress enough to get their own worlds, so what the heck is that? So if this really isn't what is going to happen, I might be able to hold onto belief in the church alot easier.

To "get our own planets" is only found in Anti-LDS rhetoric, you will not find that statement anywhere in LDS doctrine or lesson manuals..."

Here is how the MAD queen defender of the church nuances GBH's comments from the Larry King show.
calmoriah wrote:

The term "planet" is not used in the KFD, "world" is used 50 times...

Joseph smith used the word "world" 50 times, but never said planet. Therefore it must be true that it is all anti-mormon lies that Joseph Smith taught we would get out own planet. Got it.

Of course no MAD conversation can be complete without the misogyny bleeding through from faithful members.

Ellen wrote: Seriously, I just want to do and be what Heavenly Father wants me to be even if that is just to sweep the porch!....I don't know, maybe girls don't get planets, maybe just guys do? So, assuming that I get to share one with him, who ever, "Him" is?

Annnnnd, finally, someone shows up with a little integrity, who, will be honest regardless of what GBH had to say about the topic to Larry King, and if it might make the church look bad.

We shall not be idle. We shall go on from one step to another, reaching forth into the eternities until we become like the Gods, and shall be able to frame for ourselves, by the bequest and command of the Almighty. All those who are counted worthy to be exalted and to become Gods, even the sons of God, will go forth and have earths and worlds like those who framed this and millions on millions of others. Even in 2001, Elder Eyring quoted Spencer W. Kimball when he said:

Elder Eyring told the young adults that the real life they are preparing for is eternal life. "Secular knowledge has for us eternal significance," he said. "Our conviction is that God our Heavenly Father wants us to live the life that He does. We learn both the spiritual things and the secular things so that we may one day create worlds, people and govern them." (Teachings of Spencer W. Kimball, p. 386)

Henry B. Eyring, October 2002 Ensign

Our conviction is that God, our Heavenly Father, wants us to live the life that He does. We learn both the spiritual things and the secular things “so we may one day create worlds [and] people and govern them” (Spencer W. Kimball, The Teachings of Spencer W. Kimball, ed. Edward L. Kimball [1982], 386).

Doctrine and Covenants Institute Student Manual: Section 138 - Vision of the Redemption of the Dead

D&C 138:12–17. Will Many People Be Saved in the Celestial Kingdom?
.........
President Spencer W. Kimball said in a general priesthood meeting:

“Brethren, 225,000 of you are here tonight. I suppose 225,000 of you may become gods. There seems to be plenty of space out there in the universe. And the Lord has proved that he knows how to do it. I think he could make, or probably have us help make, worlds for all of us, for every one of us 225,000.

“Just think of the possibilities, the potential. Every little boy that has just been born becomes an heir to this glorious, glorious program. When he is grown, he meets a lovely woman; they are married in the holy temple. They live all the commandments of the Lord. They keep themselves clean. And then they become sons of God, and they go forward with their great program—they go beyond the angels, beyond the angels and the gods that are waiting there. They go to their exaltation.” (In Conference Report, Oct. 1975, p. 120; or Ensign, Nov. 1975, p. 80 ; see also Alma 13:10–12 .)

“Chapter 36: Eternal Life,” Gospel Fundamentals

To live in the highest part of the celestial kingdom is called exaltation* or eternal life. To be able to live in this part of the celestial kingdom, people must have been married in the temple and must have kept the sacred promises they made in the temple. They will receive everything our Father in Heaven has and will become like Him. They will even be able to have spirit children and make new worlds for them to live on, and do all the things our Father in Heaven has done.

Chapter 5 - Lorenzo Snow - Fifth President of the Church

They Shall Organize Worlds and Rule Over Them

“Only a short time before his death, President Snow visited the Brigham Young University [then Brigham Young Academy], at Provo. President Brimhall escorted the party through one of the buildings; he wanted to reach the assembly room as soon as possible, as the students had already gathered. They were going through one of the kindergarten rooms; President Brimhall had reached the door and was about to open it and go on when President Snow said: ‘Wait a moment, President Brimhall, I want to see these children at work; what are they doing?’ Brother Brimhall replied that they were making clay spheres. ‘That is very interesting,’ the President said. ‘I want to watch them.’ He quietly watched the children for several minutes and then lifted a little girl, perhaps six years of age, and stood her on a table. He then took the clay sphere from her hand, and, turning to Brother Brimhall, said:

“‘President Brimhall, these children are now at play, making mud worlds, the time will come when some of these boys, through their faithfulness to the gospel, will progress and develop in knowledge, intelligence and power, in future eternities, until they shall be able to go out into space where there is unorganized matter and call together the necessary elements, and through their knowledge of and control over the laws and powers of nature, to organize matter into worlds on which their posterity may dwell, and over which they shall rule as gods’” (Snow, Improvement Era, June 1919, 658–59).

“Chapter 4: Teaching Children: from Four to Eleven Years,” A Parent’s Guide

Teach Children to Accept and Understand Their Gender Roles
.........
Each one of you has it within the realm of his possibility to develop a kingdom over which you will preside as its king and god. You will need to develop yourself and grow in ability and power and worthiness, to govern such a world with all of its people. You are sent to this earth not merely to have a good time or to satisfy urges or passions or desires. You are sent to this earth, not to ride merry-go-rounds, airplanes, automobiles, and have what the world calls ‘fun.’

“You are sent to this world with a very serious purpose. You are sent to school, for that matter, to begin as a human infant and grow to unbelievable proportions in wisdom, judgment, knowledge, and power” (The Teachings of Spencer W. Kimball, ed. Edward L. Kimball [Salt Lake City: Bookcraft, 1982], p. 31).

That's embarrassing. We were supposed to have our own worlds, our own universes, and these people callously toss off one of the core doctrines of Mormonism. Shame on them.

No kidding. But, then again, it's not like the posters on that board represent anything really "Mormon" at this point. Still, I'm with you. Some of those response are utterly freakish.

Freakish is a good word for that board. Remember the old Vietnam saying that you have to destroy a village to save it? They are destroying and denying Mormonism in order to defend it. In the end, all that will be left is, possibly mfbukowski's twist on the Nancy Rigdon letter: If it works for you, it's true. They could put it on t-shirts. Remember "If it feels good, do it"?

Wow. It is amazing how Mormonism now is different from how I was taught. I was told that one of the reasons for us coming to earth was to gain knowledge of everything including how to run our own world/planet/earth...whatever the hell you want to call it, that we would someday inherit.

Now it appears that "WORLD" does not equal "PLANET". I guess that make's sense. When I saw the movie "Wayne's World" I never took that to mean "Wayne's Planet". Who ever thought that Wayne and Garth would be able to provide me with better understanding of that concept than the "Living Prophet" and "One True Church". LOL!!!

Yes, that's exactly what the MADites are doing. Sad, isn't it?
