Early Mormon Prophets and their child brides

This is admittedly offensive to believers, but thought it was worth noting anyway.

That's an interesting site. Speaking of things one (me) might find offensive: 2 Nephi 5:21 on a Missionary Plaque.

This made me ill.

The one I have problems with on that site is with Lorenzo Snow and Minnie Jensen Snow. After doing some research, I have found that the year of Minnie's birth on her gravestone is incorrect. She was born in 1854 not 1855. I also found a eulogy written after Minnie's death in 1908, which states that she did marry Lorenzo Snow in June 1871, a few months before her 17th birthday. But she stayed in her father's house attending school before she moved into Lorenzo Snow's house November 1873. She would have been 19 years old. Now I realize that this is still a huge age difference, but it's better to get the whole facts, instead of looking at two ages written down and assuming the rest of the story.

I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are; because a could-be is a maybe who - is reaching for a star. I'd rather be a has-been than a might-have-been, by far; for a might have-been has never been, but a has was once an are. - Milton Berle

Maureen,

Thank you for a well researched post and for setting the record straight. Look forward to your posting here more often, especially of you feel that unfair representations are being made.

Well done.

What? Come on. Don't you like 14 year old little girls? I'm sure the pimp Joe Smith can fix you up with a 14 year old girl. No one need know. It will be discreet, Mormon style. And if anyone finds out -- burn the press.

I don't know who I feel more sorry for, Elder Williams for believing this racist crap, or the people of the Congo who might have to hear this guy.

If I recall correctly, the Josephine Roueche was 26, not 16. Why call them "dirty" just because there's an age gap? Must we assume that everyone who marries someone younger does it for sex, and that a genuine, loving relationship is not likely if there's a significant age gap?
