Incredible hubris on display in this month's Ensign magazine

This month's Ensign includes an article entitled "His Grace is Sufficient" by Brad Wilcox (apparently lifted from a speech he gave at a BYU Devotional in 2011), and in the article there appears this statement (bold added for emphasis):

Think of your friends and family members who have chosen to live without faith and without repentance. They don’t want to change. They are not trying to abandon sin and become comfortable with God. Rather, they are trying to abandon God and become comfortable with sin.

What an absurd statement to make! I'm surprised the in-house correlation folks allowed this to stay in. Dumb move.

I read that article when it came out and nearly posted about it. The whole thing is awful.

The sentences don't even make sense and there is a ton of double speak.

The whole thing is BS/BCspace type of BS.

There really is no such thing as "sin" - it is a control mechanism used for the purpose of power and money.
The idea there is some perfect guy who has to interfere somehow so you will be worthy - the idea that you can never, ever be 'good enough'... is just crap and you know it.

Constant testing. Putting thorns and thistles to vex and torment mankind. All crazy attempts to make up reasons for reality by people who just can't accept it.

The surprising part is the "they". Self-justification is a self-deceit we all suffer from.

"We must free ourselves from the hidden lies with which we deceive ourselves. God sees through them, and when we come before God, we too are forced to recognize them. “But who can discern his errors? Clear me from hidden faults” prays the Psalmist (Ps 19:12 [18:13]). Failure to recognize my guilt, the illusion of my innocence, does not justify me and does not save me, because I am culpable for the numbness of my conscience and my incapacity to recognize the evil in me for what it is." (Spe Salvi, 33)

"The human race began with a single mated pair of H. sapiens that entered mortality in Missouri circa 4,000 B.C.E." is also a true statement from the perspective of the faithful. So you'll excuse some people if they do not find the perspective of the faithful to be especially compelling.
