LDS who have never heard of the Second Annointing are still familiar with the phrase "calling and election made sure" and understand the jist of it. but since they're largely kept in the dark about the details, members believe in a loose folk doctrine which imagines this event as a personal spiritual witness.

if you attend fast & testimony meetings for enough years, you're bound to hear some clueless member get up and strongly hint that they know their "calling and election" has been made sure, though they have no connection to Mormon elites and therefore no chance of having received the Second Annointing.

Second anointing counts for nothing but warranted arrogance. If you do not hear the voice of God declare that you have part and lot with him in eternal life you do not have your calling and election made sure which the llowly can get anytime independent of the church.

On a thread I was reading earlier today (as well as many other references I have read in the past on these boards), I read something that my dear friend Nightlion authored about Joseph Smith's "Calling and Election made sure."

After the many times I have seen this in written form over the years, I am still unsure as to what it really means? Where it originated? Who has it? (Or is it given/earned?)

And, is this topic something that is not suppose to be openly discussed? Sacred?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance and peace,
Ceeboo

Basically, it means you can do whatever you want in this life, you are assured a place in the highest degree of Mormon heaven.

You can have homosex
You can masturbate till it falls off
You can post nasty things about liz

And still go to heaven!

Interestingly, the second anointing is one of THE most sercret...ehm...sacred of all sacred ordinances.
So much so, that most members are completely unaware that it exists.
So much so that it is by invitation only from a General Authority who has to have the invite authorised by an Apostle.
These Apostles fast and pray about these invitations to confirm that God's approval is given.
So one has to ask, how come God didn't see the Tom Phillips public expose coming....
That said, with the Book of Mormon, we are not dealing with a civilization with no written record. What we are dealing with is a written record with no civilization. (Runtu, Feb 2015)

Having your calling and election made sure (2nd Annointing) is only possible once you share the mind and will of God having no desire to do evil, only good continually. Anyone who claims to have received this that does not follow the mind a will of God is not worthy of it.

Are you implying this might be administered to someone who is not worthy?

And by the way, wouldn't the administration of the ordinance make any one who wasn't worthy, worthy anyways? If not what is the point of having that power here on earth?

They have, after all, just had their calling and election made sure.
