Did You have Fellow Missionaries Die/Killed on Your Mission

Post by _Craig Paxton »

I posted this question in the “Finally Someone Asked the Question” thread but I think it got buried.

I am curious to know how many other posters had fellow missionaries die/killed while serving on your mission.

I know of one Elder from my mission who was killed in an auto accident. The surviving Elder, his greenie, had been part of my MTC group. He survived the crash that took his companion's life but it completely “F”ed up his mission. I talked to him several months after the accident, he was a shell of the missionary I had known in the MTC…completely broken, merely going through the motions…honestly I don’t know how he was able to continue. I have often wondered what became of him post mission….and how this death impacted the family of the Elder who was killed.

No, nor do I know of any that died in my mission anywhere around the time I served.

All of my MTC district went to the Honolulu Hawaii mission except for me and a sister from another district. We went to LA (yes, my companion was a sister missionary for a brief time while we traveled).

About 4 months into my mission, I received word from the Hawaii group that one of the missionaries from my MTC district had died. It was after a zone meeting held at a Church meeting house near the beach. The missionary had gone down to the ocean to take pictures of the sunset when a large wave came in. He ran, but the log he was standing on was lifted up by the wave and it crushed him. Very sad.

Nope. Just various assaults, but fortunately no one was seriously injured. I don't know if any long-term medical complications, either.

Not in my mission. But, one missionary got strapped down to a bed in southwest England for a few weeks.

I know of three elderly couple missionaries. One of the spouses each died in a car accident while on their missions. One of those was my father's second wife. In the same area as my mission, but much later.

My companion and I, fresh off the relevant chapter in Jesus the Christ, almost dusted our feet off against a man who was verbally abusing us. Our hands reached the level of our knees, we looked at each other and said "better not", we straightened up and walked away tracting down the street.

On our way back up the other side of the street, an ambulance pulled up and the same man was wheeled out of the house with an oxygen mask on. Coincidence or....?

A missionary from my MTC group was hit by a car and almost died in a crappy foreign hospital. He survived but was paralyzed from the waist down. He went home after that.
