Madison...I honestly need to spend more time there to make an accurate call on some of that as well. You could be right. I just hadn't noticed some of the things you are talking about.

Can everyone see the ratings you give to another poster or comment?

Yes, you can. The rating you give another post is shown in the orange arrow that goes from your post to the post you rated. If you hover your cursor over the rating, it shows the breakdown into each category. So, if you stalk somebody and downrate (or update) them a bunch, the community can see it.

Oh...that's what I thought...thanks Brad.

I wonder how many revenge ratings will be given since people can see exactly how a person rated them? Could be interesting.

The conversations I have seen so far don't really lend themselves to that kind of immaturity. That could, of course, change.

Even the ratings where Wade got the worst of it...most folks who rated him are pretty up front with why they rated him that way. For Wade's part, he seems to be taking the criticism in stride like he always does. LOL

Here's my guess: the ratings will become a significant focus of discussion, with people posting solely for the purpose of uprating or downrating to correct some perceived injustice. LIke-minded cliques will form that upgrade their members and downgrade their perceived enemies. Vigilante groups will form to "correct" what they perceive to be unfair ratings. Ratings abuse will become a significant distraction, resulting in the forum sponsors to appoint moderators to "correct" ratings abuse. This, in turn, will lead to arguments about who should be moderators and whether the moderators are being fair. Eventually, on-board disagreements will spill over into real life harassment, which will be easy because of the absence of anonymity. At that point, it will be interesting to see what the creators do.

Mark, during this beta besting phase we are still ironing out kinks, and your profile helped us to find one. One of the things The World Table does is provide a forum of credibility in addition to civility for people engaging each other over divisive topics. It dawned on me over the weekend that one of the things that contributes or detracts from credibility is the profile photo people use. Your use of Alfred E. Neuman from MAD sends a message that detracts from what you want to accomplish with a high score at TWT. For that reason I need to rate you much lower. Please consider replacing it and putting a photo of yourself on your profile as a step toward full disclosure, transparency, and credibility. Thanks.

Really? This muckety muck "had" to pop into the discussion to rate Mark based on his photo?

Not interested.

Lack of anonymity? Just create a fake hotmail account. Use the hotmail account to create a Facebook account. Use both to create the wt account.

Total anonymity.

Just as an FYI, I didn't post my picture there. I posted my music note symbol that I use for my studio. I still got rated 100%. It sounds like that one guy who was talking to Mark was just lame.

I think the world table was either create for:

a) gather intel on critics
b) get revenge on critics

For b, the idea is good folks everywhere would unite there, escaping the diseased souls of critics. Once all other message boards are emptied of the faithful, and the rating system and id system keeps critics out, then that will teach the critics a lesson. They'll be nobody left for the critics to berate, and the apologists will look on, laughing.

they had no intention on going there and participating themselves, that would be boring. But if the could change the way people interact on the internet across the entire globe, and then the critics will be left out in the cold to suffer alone.

I think this was their plan.

Are your trying to register on TWT or your state's health care exchange?
