As a British "middle-way Mormon" (more stayLDS than NOM) and a branch mission leader the story has made barely a sizzle. No-one is talking about it. None of my non-Mormon friends (who all know I'm a member) have asked about. No-one has mentioned it at church. It was covered on the websites of a few newspapers and BBC Radio 4 for a few minutes.
The Elders haven't mentioned it.
Last year this "surprise" was claimed to be the thing that would bring the church to its knees. No one even knows it's happend.
Missionary Work adversely impacted by Monson Criminal Case
Re: Missionary Work adversely impacted by Monson Criminal Ca
My (Hungarian) observation:
Yesterday I was called by a woman --- member, my wife's friend, and somebody who likes the same style of jokes I like, even Monty Python.
Her phone calls can not be ringed off (hung up???).
I've mentioned to her the Monson case, as "don't you know something of it" ?
She said "no, and I think I never will".
Not a wonder.mackay11 wrote:As a British "middle-way Mormon" (more stayLDS than NOM) and a branch mission leader the story has made barely a sizzle.
Only those who know something about it --- minority.mackay11 wrote:No-one is talking about it.
Non-mormons don't know who Thomas Monson is (I am THE exception here)mackay11 wrote:None of my non-Mormon friends (who all know I'm a member) have asked about.
___ and no one will mention.mackay11 wrote:No-one has mentioned it at church

If the word Elders means for You 18yo youngsters prepared to convey six halfhour lesson, then they will never mention it.mackay11 wrote:The Elders haven't mentioned it.

What better reason is there to take legal action against a church for collecting tithes other than while teaching false doctrine??
Kish, you keep mischaracterizing this lawsuit as being one against the church for what it preaches, its theology, its beliefs, and now, for teaching false doctrine. This is about fraud, false representations of fact. Theology, belief, opinions, promises, doctrine, and faith have nothing to do with demonstrably false statements made to induce payments.
I agree with you that lawsuits against religion for what they preach or teach as far as spiritual matters go is frivolous. The reason being, spiritual matters are not provable, either way.

That said, with the Book of Mormon, we are not dealing with a civilization with no written record. What we are dealing with is a written record with no civilization. (Runtu, Feb 2015)

Who told you that? I remember Tom mentioning that it will not have as big of an impact as people were thinking.
