They still believe Monson visits with Jesus in person

Now that I'm a non-member, when I attend church, they no longer let me go to gospel doctrine class but rather they put me in the gospel principles class with the ward missionary. Somehow they think teaching me the most basic gospel ideas will magically fix my testimony.

So today the lesson was on prophets when the teacher asked the class to list what makes a prophet so special and why we need one. Here is the list:

Leadership
*special witness of Christ
Provides warning to the world
Interprets doctrine

I was thinking "wow, that's a pretty lame list and if I was catholic, how is a prophet any different than the pope?"

So the teacher puts a star next to "special witness of Christ" and says "I know President Monson visits with Jesus just like we are visiting with each other today." The entire class nods in agreement except me. I didn't have the heart to tell them Monson has never seen Christ and that Santa Claus is just their mom and dad.

People in the Church are free to believe whatever they like (whether is it is baseless or not). I also very much doubt that President Monson has seen the Lord. He is the president of the LDS Church, nothing more. If God wishes to tell him something to tell the rest of us, he can let us know what it is. I don't think that is very likely anytime soon.

You too are entitled to your opinion. HOWEVER, Sanctorian was pointing out that FACT that the goshspell principles instructor is teaching noobie members that Thommy and Jesus hang out and shoot the crap.

I was invited by one of my friends that was speaking. I have no problem visiting the ward every now again. I like the vast majority of the members so I don't let my issues with the organization of the church interfere with my friendships.

No problem on the judgmental part. My ideal would be to move out of Utah and completely forget about the church but my wife is still active and TBM. She has agreed to not baptize our kids though which is a pretty big deal so I must give her a shoutout for that. And like I said, my problems are with the church, not the members. Even though I'm not a member anymore, I'm still very much Mormon by my upbringing. I can relate to them even though I no longer believe and pay into the system.

Wish you would have asked precisely how they were able to know that. I think it cheapens our faith to give such answers, when she or he had no real way of knowing.

On the other hand, I have witnessed Clint Eastwood talking to a chair, but it seemed like he was play acting. Perhaps the teacher and the class were also play acting to get your attendance back up.

That seems a very reasonable comment (what else did I expect from a penguin?).

But once the answer comes back "I know because the Lord told me, and I have a testimony of that", what more can you say, unless you want to attack a central feature of the Mormon faith structure - the testimony?
