Drink coffe and tea - & wine for health
Got off the phone with friend in Wyoming a bit ago and have to chuckle though his story is a sad one.
Seems his Doctors are telling him he needs to drink green tea, at least 4 cups of coffe a day and two glasses of wine as well. All this for health reasons as it will cost much less than the prescription drugs needed to control his medical problems.
He is worried about Word of Wisdom stuff here - he's in the Stake Presidency and has been a Bishop as well. He is worried he will have to drive up into Montana to buy these 'controlled' substances so no one he knows will see him. Told him I can buy it and ship it to him but he isn't sure about that as coffee smell in the mail will surely be talked about in his town - his mailman is one of the local Bishops.
When belief interferes with health - he is having a real problem with that one.

Well, he should be at least drinking the green tea.

He won't accept coffee mailed to him because his Mormon mailman might smell it through the packaging?
Ask him to explain to you why he believes he's not in a cult.

Oh yeah, he can get most of this stuff in the form of capsules or gelcaps or whatever. I have these "Green Tea Extract" gel pills from Costco that would probably work in place of actual green tea. There are also resverotrol capsules, and I've seen some coffee-related capsules as part of new weightloss fads that he could look into it.
I guess it depends on him getting an adjudication from his local church hieracrats that a gel pill of green tea extract does not constitute a "hot drink" subject to the proscriptions of the Word of Wisdom.
Has he consulted a canon lawyer yet? It might be high time.
ETA: the resverotral and coffee capsule stuff

I guess capsules would be OK as long as he didn't drop them into hot water first.

Out of curiosity, do any of you like Bruschetta with chopped fresh tomatoes with garlic, basil, consecrated olive oil, and vinegar, served on toasted slices of French or Italian bread? That consecrated olive oil gives it an extra glow of healthiness for you, si?

I love bruschetta! Especially with a good wine. Of course, I need to consecrate it myself when at a restaurant (quick hand sign of the cross at the table). You never know if the chef is performing the rights correctly (if at all).
I figure that the blessing counteracts the evil of the wine.

Hey Zelph!
Maybe you could try tricking the Mormon mailman Bishop and mask the smell of the coffee by burying it in a kilo of cocaine!
Mormonism! Good Lord!
Peace,
