Missionaries clueless about MMM
We have the missionaries over at least once a month for dinner. During these meals and visits I try and stay away from any troubling subjects since my wife is a TBM and the missionaries are at our house due to an invitation from us. This last visit we also hosted my HT and his wife, both of which I consider to be good friends.
In the after-dinner message being presented by the missionaries, they mentioned a difficult recent encounter with a non member contact who had advised them that they knew little about their own church's troublesome past. Both sisters expressed ignorance to what the contact meant, though one hazarded a guess that it might have had to do with polygamy. I kept silent but my HT jumped in with "maybe he was referring to the Mountain Meadows Massacre?" Both missionaries were life long members. One had heard the term MMM before and the other had not, neither one had any idea about the actual event and who was involved.
My HT and his wife spent the next 15 minutes or so trying to spin the massacre in as good a light as possible for the current Church while at the same time laying the blame for it on the Mormon participants. I stayed out of the conversation, for the most part, but it was interesting to see the reaction of two young 20 year old lifelong members to this tragic event. I was also quite surprised, that even today, young life long members are around that have not heard about MMM.

"Any over-ritualized religion since the dawn of time can make its priests say yes, we know, it is rotten, and hard luck, but just do as we say, keep at the ritual, stick it out, give us your money and you'll end up with the angels in heaven for evermore."

Re: Missionaries clueless about MMM
When I first told my Bishop I was questioning the truth claims of the church (maybe 8 years ago now) and had decided not to pay tithing any longer, MMM was the example he gave when trying to show support and that there were troubling issues he didn't understand, either.
Then, a couple of years ago when the Bishop in the ward we had moved into a year or two before invited me in to talk, he also cited MMM as something he knew about, found troubling, and didn't understand. Also done in the spirit of showing we had something about this in common and it wasn't such as big deal to question so why not start coming back to church?
So it's interesting the HT went for MMM as the example.

If I recall correctly, there are at least two other instances where Mormons committed mass murder after disarming their captives under a flag of truce. The first instance would've course be the Circleville Massacre. I can't recall what the second was just now. If it comes back to me I'll add it to the list if somebody doesn't come up with it first.
Surprise, surprise, there is no divine mandate for the Church to discuss and portray its history accurately.

This just illustrates how out of date you are. There is no evidence implicating the Church or BY in the matter. Settled long ago. The fact that you continue to use it also illustrates how morally and intellectually bankrupt you are.

No quotes. No references. Likely the wrong topic (which has also been laid to rest).

Without quotes and references, I'm not even sure you do.

You may also find this one interesting too, because it actually contains transcripts of the archives in question. It was also published by your own fruity little cult.

It neither surprises me nor bothers me. Not sure why it would surprise or bother anyone.
