How can we not be sure old Joey spilled his ravenous seed onto the barren ground as to not leave any proof that Emma was right?
Or perhaps he was ahead of his time and predates methods made famous by Peter North?

I never thought of that.
Quite plausible I suppose.

Spot the difference between these scriptures. Joseph Smith's translation removes coitus interruptus as a mortal sin and replaces it with refusing to sleep with your brother's widow instead. Maybe this is a hint as to his method - if he rewrites the scriptures on this subject.
Genesis 38:9 wrote: And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother’s wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.
JST Genesis 38:9-10 wrote:9 And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he married his brother's wife, that he would not lie with her, lest he should raise up seed unto his brother.
10 And the thing which he did displeased the Lord; wherefore he slew him also.

Wow. That is very interesting. Makes you wonder.

He was accused of just that. He was trying very hard to hide his polygamy. Why wouldn't he have one of his wives get an abortion if they got pregnant? He had someone who supposedly had performed them.

ROFL, for Joseph, the sin was in not [deleted] someone when he had the chance. Shows you where his priorities and values were at.
No word on whether the angel with the flaming sword tried to convince Onan to go through with it or not.
