Home Depot's (HD +0.67%) newest location is 10 times bigger than its average store, stocks three times more items and has no customers.
It's an online distribution center, for a company that seems the unlikeliest of Internet retailers.
For decades, Home Depot excelled at the traditional retail model of growing by adding new locations. But the seller of tools, saws, particleboard and washing machines is making a hard turn toward the Internet in the face of changing shopper habits and fast diminishing returns from new store openings.
This year, the home-improvement chain will open two distribution centers and just one store. The move is a stark signal for an overbuilt industry that may be witnessing a permanent drop in shopper traffic, even in the middle of a housing recovery that is boosting sales.
"The retail model forever was to increase sales through opening additional units, but as you added stores to a finite group of households, each store becomes less profitable," Home Depot Chief Executive Frank Blake said in an interview. "So the decision was made to stop opening additional boxes."
When a Retail Giant like Home Depot realizes that Internet Sales are the Future of something as instantly demanding as Hardware, what does that say about the future of Brick and Mortar stores like the Mega-Billion Dollar Mormon Bastard Jesus Mall.

Just goes to show how inspired LDS Corp's executives really are.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

The internet is killing the church with exposing it's history and now it's killing the church with online shopping. Next general conference they will say something along the lines of "DO NOT BUY PRODUCTS ONLINE. THE EVILS OF ONLINE SHOPPING ARE SIGNS OF THE TIMES. STAY AWAY FROM PORN AND AMAZON."

Hell, they are not above pushing the Deseret News in the Ensign. Who knows?

Kish, some of the MBAs in leadership at the COB got together and came up with this idea about leveraging both the Deseret News and Ensign properties to maximize synergies and utilize the Lord's resources as effectively as possible. The various stakeholders agreed, the facilitator put it to a vote, and the motion was carried.
Or, as they like to say it, they got a revelation.

Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen
