Your brand of Christianity, makes no more sense than Mormonism does. That is what makes this entire thread so pathetically humorous.

I spent about a year investigating mainstream Christianity, but in the end it was just as problematic as Mormonism, both in terms of its truth claims as well as its impact on the way I live my life. Every single church I visited was like Mormonism in terms of the judgmentalism and dogmatism, just with different dogmas. No, thanks. I'll pass, too.

I was thinking about committing to Christ, but Ms. servant talked me out of it.

Sometimes I think people like that are deliberately trying to make Christianity look even less appealing than Mormonism. I have a lot of friends who are committed Christians, and I respect them and their beliefs. It would break my heart to know that any of my friends followed that kind of angry dogmatism. Generally speaking, I think Christianity is much better than that.

Instead, I believe God (or gods) may exist, but only in the universe as we understand it today. Magical beings are simply fictitious. While technically advanced, powerful beings are likely to exist in our universe.

Tobin. How many years were you an active believing Mormon?

I've been a Mormon for over 40 years and I just had the missionaries over for dinner. And I was over at the SP's house for Family Home Evening last week. And he knows my views as well. I've expressed to him that I do not believe in magic, but science. And that if God exists, he must be an advanced scientific being. In fact, a few weeks ago we discussed this very topic and he identified a few places in the scriptures that may be examples of advanced technology (the Liahona, the U&T, the Jaredite bargs, and so on) being given or taught to man.

In this context, I was writing specifically about the beliefs of mainstream Christianity, because this thread is in response to our dear friend Servant, who is not Mormon.

I am well aware of the specifics of LDS doctrine, and consequently, I am also aware that some aspects of this criticism do not generally apply to LDS beliefs.
