Omissions and lies in The Restoration movie

Why did LDS Inc leave out the fact that Joseph was not only armed with a loaded gun, but that he fired it?

Is this an omission or a lie?

A woman's narrative voice also states that "we did not break any laws, but were driven from our homes..."

Mormons did break laws. That is a fact.

Lie.
That said, with the Book of Mormon, we are not dealing with a civilization with no written record. What we are dealing with is a written record with no civilization. (Runtu, Feb 2015)

Because it doesn't make Joseph look like a lamb to the slaughter.

Is this an omission or a lie?

It's a lie of Omission. I was taught clearly by the church that omitting relevant information was lying by omission.

On my mission, when we taught the story of the First Vision, we were taught to leave out the part about Satan coming to try and stop Joseph from praying. I think it was just because this ruins the flow of the story, and serves as a "....wait, what?" moment for investigators.

Likewise, I think showing Joseph with the gun would ruin the flow of the story ("Wait, how did Joseph get a gun?"), so I'm not surprised they left it out. Not saying it isn't a "lie", but just saying it's understandable that they would leave that out of an LDS-produced film.

It's a feel good spiritual based movie..... It's not designed to tell ALL FACTS of history.
Calling something that is commonly done in all aspects of life, and story telling, movie production etc. "lying" or "lying by ommission" is the game of a fool.

When you tell a story from your past, and you tell the "relevant" only to whatever point you're trying to make, are you LYING? No you're not.
Everyone does this in daily life, this does not equate to lying, and is not the standard for what makes "lying", and if you think either YOU in fact are lying.

I agree with ldsfaqs that we could not have a feel-good spiritual movie if it were to tell all the facts of history.

More pre-packaged, treacly pseudo-history, eh?

Color me unsurprised.

Fraudulantly trying to mislead to get gain is not the same thing as simply telling a story from ones past that may not include ALL details, a FULL HISTORY....

If I talk about my Football career, but I don't tell every other aspect of my entire life, including every little thing that might have occured during the periods I played football, but have no relevance to the football story, YOu really think I would be "lying"????
