The Die Has Been Cast; John Dehlin WILL Be Excommunicated

I don't see any other outcome...the church can not afford to Excommunicate Kate Kelly and allow John Dehlin to walk away a free man, escaping church discipline. The cards have been dealt, the fix is in, the death-star has been repositioned, the soldiers will carry out their orders...we're merely waiting for the fat lady to finish singing.
Sorry John...but I don't see you escaping the inevitable. You are part of a purge...You are part of the message being sent to the entire church membership...and that message can't be sent with out an exclamation on the end of that message...unfortunately, you are the exclamation point
!

John wants to be excommunicated. He wants the same level of fame as the september six. He wants his deal to be sealed this way...forced out. If you have followed him on Facebook the guy could not be more excited about the current happenings. If I were the church and wanted to get him to shut up I would let him remain.
P.S. I have no problem with John's movement and methods (loved his early interviews). I just believe he clearly wants to be ex'ed.

I'm not convinced he wanted to be ex'd, but I do think he wanted to see how far he could push it. I also believe he got word a few months back the church would be making this push and he took it as an opportunity to do as much damage as possible by doing the Sandra Tanner and Jeremy Runnells interviews.

John Larson has called him "The most productive Anti-Mormon that has ever existed." in his latest podcast. I just found that an interesting statement.

i believe him when he says he will refuse to resign.
i think the church gets nothing from tying his excommunication to kelly's. if you read the comments at meridian and the deseret news, along with some of the editorials, you can see a real difference between kelly and dehlin.
kelly was, to a common member, a real threat and heretic.
dehlin is just a self-aggrandizing publisher of stuff. to many of them, he is no different than 'the internet.' you cannot excommunicate the internet, so why bother with this guy. and, keeping him shows that this is not about exing people with doubts. it is about ridding themselves of the people attacking their doctrine.
dehlin will not get his free fame, they wont even have a court for him.

As much as I don't want to see John excommunicated, I agree with you on this.

I don't understand how Kate Kelly could be considered a greater threat than John Dehlin. He has, I believe, a much larger following than she does. He is much more outspoken about not believing in the fundamentals of Mormonism. He addresses a wider range of problematic issues than Ordain Women.
Believe in the church and support church leaders while asking to attend even more church meetings and asking the leaders to ask God about female ordination = excommunication.
Express disbelief in many or most of the fundamentals of the church while giving a platform to some of the church's most prominent critics and highlighting the most problematic aspects of church culture and doctrine = good standing.
What a joke. If the church takes no action against John Dehlin, I guess the message is that the church considers female ordination a far bigger can of worms than all the issues John Delhin addresses so they have to cut the movement off in its infancy.

let me explain this a bit, tim. sorry.
from the perspective of a tbm Mormon, there is not a lot of difference between dehlin and by common consent. or dehlin and and times and seasons. they are just the internet. he is just publishing interviews and hosting stuff online. no difference to them between this board and Mormon stories. just anti-mormon internet hosts.
from a tbm perspective, kate kelly is satan.
only a church court and public excommunication would give dehlin his martyr status and elevate him to satan status among tbm members.
the trib is hosting conversations with Mormon feminists about kate kelly, her movement, and her court. the deseret news is covering it closely. any conversations about dehlin were a response to an article in the ny times where he initiated and tied himself to kelly as co-defendant. he was never even summoned to a court, and now he is diminished in the press's interest. that will continue to slide, and there is no incentive to ramp it up.
