From Greg Timble: You Should Not Leave Mormonism For Any of These 5 Reasons

...and yes getting offended is the first reason.

I love the LDS Church. I haven’t found anything that makes more sense. I sin, I see anti-Mormon literature, the work is hard sometimes, I don’t understand every single thing that has come out of every Church leader’s mouth, and I’ve been offended a time or two…but the things I know…I know…and that is why I keep coming back.

Funny.

What a strange analogy...

Greg Trimble wrote:If you were going to help your kids build a tree fort…you probably would have them centralize their fort near or around the trunk of the tree. Unfortunately, too many people skip the basics and go right to the farthest branches of the tree to try and get a quicker, better view. The branches are weak and unestablished, and placing to much weight on them may result in a nasty fall.

It's as if he's telling you that because the doctrine given to you - and that you tried to build your testimony on - was weak or broken, that it is strictly your fault that it won't hold you.

The highlights:

What you have to realize is that no anti-Mormon literature is unbiased. That is why it is called “anti”.

It’s tough…but what else would I be doing with my time!

Would it be OK to leave Scientology or the Jehovah's Witnesses for any of those five reasons?

It's funny because any of those 5 reasons can be applied to anyone who leaves the church, no matter what the reason. The list is targeted for a TBM audience, and it should be titled "The 5 reasons you can give for why people leave the church". People who leave the church don't care why Mormons think they left. It's not like the Mormons can call the cops and say you left for the wrong reason. You can leave for any reason you want and there's nothing they can do about it. The purpose of lists like this is to convince those still in the church that people who leave are dumb, or sinners, or both.

The comments are a fun read.

This old tired list of reasons is so outdated. Why not try something original and list the 5 good reasons for leaving the church. Does anyone have 5 good reasons for leaving the church? I can only come up with one reason - Because I feel like it.

The reason I left is that it's all BS. I didn't see that on the list.

I wasn't offended. I didn't leave to "sin" (I "sinned" just fine while still a member). I never read any "anti-mo materials" until years after leaving. I understand it well enough to know it's a con.

The only thing on his list that might have a kernel of truth was that being a member for me was hard. Not because of how much of a demand they put on my time, but because of how embarrassing it was to call myself a mo.

I had to stop after about 15-20 of them. It was getting too painful. There's little worse than reading a bunch of brainwashed people accuse others of not doing enough research (presumably to get them to the same level of brainwashing).
