More soothing for the injustices of life than any "atonement", resurrection and eternal life/reward--and any other religious accouterments--is the hope that there is no afterlife. If so, then this 'cat' is no longer unfulfilled, no longer paying a price, no longer unacceptable. No longer is it unfair. Now, it is okay. For him, fairness has been mooted by existence as a sentient having come to end. Justice, as elusive as it is and usually exacting a higher price in collateral damage than the recompense it could possibly provide, is only a reed at which grasped by those that have no hope for a nihilistic end.

Mayan, I think your wound is deeper from your loss by reason of his death than you may realize.

Mormonism wants you to pretend that who you are isn't important and, in fact, isn't there anyway. No, you need to suppress the real you, only they call it "putting off the natural man." Stop thinking, stop feeling, stop being yourself, and life will be great.

I think we see it the same way, but I come at it from a different angle. From my perspective, the church tells us to remember who we are but tells us that anything about us incompatible with Mormonism isn't really us. "Remember you hold the priesthood. Remember you choose to keep your first estate in the preexistence. Etc. That's the real you."

Does anyone else think the man in the OP video looked miserable? He's been married a year and is clearly already overwhelmed by the consequences. In regards to marital issues, he says, more or less, well, any problem we have is minor compared to the SSA.

Speaking from sad experience, the devastation on a woman's self-image from being married to a gay man is devastating. Neither of them really understood what they were signing up for.

Yes. I thought he did. For a portion of it, I turned down the volume so I could focus on his expression. Even though there were very few cracked smiles, it just looked like he was carrying a huge amount of weight. The video was posted over 2 years ago. I wonder how he's doing.

Why do you feel that the young man in the video is a lunatic? I don't get that vibe. He is a young man trying to do what he feels is the right thing. I just see that there is likely to be sadness ahead if he does decide later that he can't deny an overwhelming desire to have a full-on, loving homosexual relationship. If he meets a man who he wants this with later, it is going to completely devastate the marriage, and tear apart an entire family, if there are children involved.

I do give the young man kudos for at least being honest with his wife BEFORE they got married about his homosexuality. At least this is not something she was blindsided with later. She at least had an inkling of what she was getting into. I cannot help but wonder, though, if due to her love for him, she was trying to be exceedingly optimistic in a desire to "change" his orientation. I know that if my daughter came to me and was interested in marrying someone like this, I would be discouraging it.

"Hey honey, I fancy blokes and have no sexual attraction to women but the Church says I'll go to hell so....will you marry me?"

What woman could turn a proposal like that down....

Religion really "F"s your head up sometimes.

that funeral was so sad. so damn sad.

i didn't see a single person cry. maybe there were some that did. but it was soulless. i did not recognize the person they were talking about. and the 30 minute talk about the plan of salvation was not necessary, especially the part where the speaker placed his hand (the spirit) into a glove (the body) to explain phase 2 of the plan of salvation.
