Plenty of love for you--you seem to be a very nice person.

No love for the movie. Please don't oversimplify and dismiss the experiences of some of these participants by suggesting that one banal propaganda piece is the principal cause of their negative attitudes towards the church. It is one of many examples of an overall pattern of whitewashing major flaws in the church's truth claims and current culture. Being manipulated pisses people off once they become alert to what's going on. Being pissed off at this sort of stuff is basically what goes on at this discussion board. That's why all the hate.

Can the Church do anything good, besides ceasing to exist?

Sure, the church can do something good besides ceasing to exist. Ball is in their court. In fact, the church is positioned and empowered to do a lot more good than it actually does. But it does a lot less good than one might reasonably expect from the executive branch of the loving, just, almighty creator of the universe. And it has done harm. More harm than one might reasonably expect from the executive branch of the loving, just, almighty creator of the universe. Many people who post here have directly experienced this.

That's kind of what I'm thinking. I wouldn't say it was good or bad. It's just the missionary arm trying to promote the LDS Church. There are a lot of Mormons who are very happy with their church.

Well, you could take it one step further than that and say that it's just the missionary arm of the church attempting to widen the gospel net to give people worldwide an opportunity to hear and accept the gospel of Jesus Christ in its fullness. The technology is there. Why not use it?

Are they really going to release this in theaters? I think they are delusional if they think people are going to pay to see it.

Hey, lots of people paid to see Glenn Beck's recent "We Will Not Conform" nation wide theater production/presentation on Common Core. Don't underestimate the numbers of people that have an interest in one thing or another. Especially if they think that it affects them or their family in real ways.

This isn't going to affect many families in any real way.

Mormons drawing attention to themselves in the media always backfires at some point.
That said, with the Book of Mormon, we are not dealing with a civilization with no written record. What we are dealing with is a written record with no civilization. (Runtu, Feb 2015)

It is quite fun to watch how no one at the Church has the slightest clue how creepy and off-kilter this kind of propaganda looks to outsiders. It's like a white custom chevy van ice cream truck driving around the neighborhood by a creepy, middle-aged guy with a weird stare...
So I, too, would make this popp-ed corn and win over those mindless drones.

Especially given that the price for admission is 10% of your income.

The popcorn must be outrageous.

Hey PP, I thought the film wasn't getting released until October. How were you able to watch it? Link?

I think he was talking about the UK "Meet the Mormons" piece made by a non-Mormon.
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen
