Anderson is defending the character of Joseph Smith, here are some highlights from the
ldsconference Twitter feedElder Maxwell: “Studying the church through the eyes of its defectors is like interviewing Judas to understand Jesus.” #ElderAndersen
I wonder if Elder Anderson would say the same about the FLDS church. Maybe we should disregard those defectors as well.
Let us offer kindness to those who criticize Joseph Smith, knowing in our own hearts that he was a Prophet of God.”
“Internet information does not have a ‘truth’ filter. Some information, no matter how convincing, is simply not true.” #ElderAndersen
Neither apparrently does God's prophets. Examples: racism, global flood.
“You may understandably question what you hear on the news, but you need never doubt the testimony of God’s prophets.” #ldsconf

Elder Maxwell: “Studying the church through the eyes of its defectors is like interviewing Judas to understand Jesus.” #ElderAndersen
What's wrong with that? Judas was an apostle and I'm sure had a lot of insight into Jesus.

As I wrote in a very old (2008) thread:

What Could Have Jesus Done - without Judas the obedient?
Should have he denounce himself to Caiaphas or Pilate??
Judas simply obeyed the
command: "
That thou doest, do quickly". (John 13:27)
Probably, they have negotiated it before.
The other disciples didn't know what is all about: "
Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him". (John 13:28)

Elder Anderson, if what the Church taught about Joseph Smith was accurate and what was circulating on the Internet was merely defectors telling lies,,,why has the Church produced a series of essays that now confirm those Internet lies were accurate?

No one believes that Joseph Smith was perfect in that sense of the word. However, when we consider his life and what he accomplished in such a short time, we would need to admire him for what he did. No prophet has been perfect, Certainly, in the Old Testament we have imperfect prophets and yet, they are honored for what they did and accomplished to preach the work of god.

That poor strawman never had a chance.
