Monson and others recycled their talks. This is becoming more and more common. I can easily imagine a day when every single General Conference talk has been recycled over and over:

That's because their talks are used in the priesthood and relief society manuals that are recycled every four years. No sense in complicating things.

The senior geezers have been GAs so long, they only have a limited number of real life experiences before becoming a GA that they can draw on for their conference talk stories. I'm impressed that the cycling is not actually shorter.

When we fully heed their messages, then they will no longer need to repeat them.

Hundreds of thousands of Mormons are obedient, pay tithing and live the highest standards. No new messages for them?

Sometimes I think they had no real life experiences - at all.
You know - the ivory tower effect.
In the 50s (socialism, you know the word but the principle) one of our highest leaders was asked for the price of a tramway ticket.
The reporter was sacked at once. We have never ever seen her in the TV.

My guess is these guys are so sheltered from the real world that they all have bidets.
Being a Christian, some of the best teachings I have heard are from guys that have screwed up and turned their lives around. I once went to a men's retreat and the speaker was a ex-mafia thug...talk about a testimony, and stories that were not recycled.
