I read somewhere and it may have been this board at some point, that senior executives of large organizations represent anti-social traits at a much higher rate than the population average. I think that for Ballard or anyone else to get up there and say what he said with a straight face to millions (lol) of people would not be possible with the ability to make emotional connections with people. This takes outright lying to a level the most immoral Wall Street executives could scarcely imagine.
Anyone posting or lurking on this board who sustains Ballard as a leader ought to be ashamed of himself or herself. Shame, shame on you.

Lou Midgley 08/20/2020: "...meat wad," and "cockroach" are pithy descriptions of human beings used by gemli? They were not fashioned by Professor Peterson.
LM 11/23/2018: one can explain away the soul of human beings...as...a Meat Unit, to use Professor Peterson's clever derogatory description of gemli's ideology.

Hey, that was me.
Readable book on the subject:

Turns out the traits that are apt to make a person to meet criteria for anti-social personality disorder or narcissistic personality disorder, the DSM categories that most closely matches what we sometimes call sociopathy and psychopathy, are also traits that make people effective corporate ladder climbers.

To take it one step further, to the extent to which upward mobility in the LDS Church mirrors upward mobility in structures like corporations, you would expect the same phenomenon to be true. Consequently, you would expect disproportionate representation of psychopathic ladder climbers as you go up the organizational hierarchy.
I'm not sure if LDS would like the implications of that social science. An average Mormon in the pews might simply retort that Jesus directs the promotions in the Church, so problem averted. But for more sophisticated LDS or those with apologetic tactics that acknowledge the all-too-human nature of these processes, it should perk their ears up and make them more guarded.

When they looked at me with a confused expression I said, "Just look at how the Lord backed things up by taking out Joseph Smith."
If I were the church, I would dump all the "martyr" talk, point to Bro Joe marrying 14 year old girls and other men's wives, busting up printing presses, Book of Abraham, etc., and say, "The Lord finally had enough of his baloney. See...He won't let His leaders lead you astray."
I think there is a movement happening within Mormonism with this very idea. Joe was the prophet of the restoration when he created the Book of Mormon, but once that was finished, he lost his prophetic calling as evidenced by polygamy and the Book of Abraham.
What is the name of the movement?
Don't take life so seriously in that " sooner or later we are just old men in funny clothes" "Tom 'T-Bone' Wolk"

I don't know if it has a name. I've just read comments by church members on boards with this theme that Joe was a prophet and then was a fallen prophet later on in life. Most likely these are fringe members. I wouldn't say its a large movement, but it will be interesting to see if it grows. I personally don't get it. If you're accepting Joe as a fallen prophet, why give credence to anything he did?
Here's just one example
