Utah Legislature is trying to pass a law making it legal to refuse service to someone if your 'religious belief' makes you uncomfortable dealing with them.

This will make it legal to refuse service to Mormons.
Dallin Oaks deserves a hearty congratulations for pushing this one.

Ha on you! It is the Mormons who will have the upper hand at discriminating in Utah. If they dare to discriminate against us, then we will double discriminate them right back.

Interesting bill.
I did not see a section that discussed "clearly and convincingly" that prohibiting discrimination based on race, religion, etc was a compelling public health and safety issue. Nor did I see a section discussing that the proposed law is the least restrictive means.
So on two fronts, the law fails to prohibit what it claim to protect.
I believe ZelphtheGreat may be correct, religious based discrimination against Mormons very probably could be found legal under this law. As it is the burden of the Government to demonstrate a compelling interest for public health and safety to prohibit discrimination against Mormons.
I do not see a "public health and safety" issue involved with refusing services to Mormons, or any other religious person, or to Blacks, Hispanics, women.

If this becomes law (which I'm hoping never happens) I can't wait until some Mormon is refused service or services based on someone elses religious values. Turn around can and will happen...what will Mormons do then...cry foul when their the victoms of their own hate?

What all of this is going to do is just waist the Utah tax payers money. The Utah Legislature will pass their bill, and the courts will strike it down.

Maybe I'm confusing you with someone else but I didn't take you for someone that would spell waste as "waist".

Good evening I have a question:

My question: Where does this leave the Mormon campaign on religious freedoms?

GRESHAM, Ore. – An Oregon bakery discriminated against a same-sex couple who wanted to purchase a wedding cake, the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries announced Monday.
The owners of Sweet Cakes by Melissa bakery will have to pay the couple up to $150,000, BOLI spokesman Charlie Burr said. The exact amount will be determined at a hearing on March 10.

We simply invent new reasons, new justifications, new explanations. Sometimes we ignore the evidence altogether.” (Mathew Syed 'Black Box Thinking')

You forget that the Mormon definition of freedom trumps all others. Therefore, they have the right to discriminate against all others, including people of other religions and atheists/ganostics.I have a question wrote:My question: Where does this leave the Mormon campaign on religious freedoms?
Problems with auto-correct:
In Helaman 6:39, we see the Badmintons, so similar to Skousenite Mormons, taking over the government and abusing the rights of many.
