I always assumed it came from a mishmash of Biblical blessings.

Job 40:16-17
16 Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly.

17 He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together.

18 His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron.

Proverbs 3:8-9
8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

9 Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:

I bet only people over 50 would remember that.

From Proverbs 3:8
It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

Job 40:16
“Behold now, his strength in his loins
And his power in the muscles of his belly.

God was talking about his amazing creatures for the last one. Perhaps the tapir or penguin.

I didn't click through, but I'm willing to bet they believe in the Illuminati, too. They probably also believe that ritualistic baby sacrifice is real.

Don't buy in. It is the worst level of conspiracy theory.

I don't know, I'm fairly skeptical, hence my inquiry here. There's a bad link in there, to some kind of jesus ministry thing, another red flag to me. Something about the name of the token, however, has always bothered me. It seems to be self centered rather than Christ centered. Like I said, fairly un-mormon sounding.

Well, the link she uses as her research is not available anymore.

I did read some stuff, way back when, that seemed to indicate that there was a pagan ritual that had many similarities with the temple and mason rituals. One thing I read, in particular, spoke of pagan prayer circles and the number of people in one and how in Nauvoo the members would frequently hold prayer circles in their homes with that same number of people.

I think it is impossible to exclude the influence of the occult in the making of Mormonism. Joseph Smith and his family were really into that type of thing.

lol, you're probably right. But sometimes there's some fact mixed in there somewhere.

When I was in the MTC, we had a woman who would come in on Sundays to teach our branch Sunday School class. One week the subject was the Word of Wisdom. She asked what the promises were, and then started reciting the verses, only she instead veered into the name of the token from the temple. She stopped abruptly, red-faced and horrified, so a helpful missionary in the class finished it for her. Everyone was a bit shocked, but then we all started laughing.

I heard someone call that "Temple Tourette's," when you say a temple phrase out of habit outside the temple.

The reaction is the hilarious part. It's words. Strung together in a pattern. Ya ain't gonna burn.

Wonder what it is called when you do it on purpose? Like answer your door with... "What is wanted?"
