LDS Loopholes

Post by _Doctor CamNC4Me »

DarthJ on another thread brought up the point that LDS dogma has many loopholes that undermine its own theology. For example, you need to come to this earth to receive a body in order to become a god, but Jesus was already a god thus negating the premise of the Plan of Salvation.

What are some LDS loopholes that have always stood out to you, or have caused you to scratch your head in confusion?

The one that boggles my mind is Hitler having received his ordinances, thus he's in the position to become a god more favorably than, say, John Dehlin.

The fact that any child below eight rides a VIP train to the Celestial Kingdom suggests that there really is no point to this mortal probation, since the standards for getting in require you to have the moral abilities of (at most) a seven year old, and you don't even need to have had so elementary an ordinance as baptism, let alone the endowments and temple marriage.

On the other hand, it might not be about moral qualities and ordinances at all, in which case, therefore, there is really no point to doing any ordinances or cultivating any moral qualities.

Also, it is logically a very strong inducement to infanticide, which means that the best way to love your children in terms of the life to come is to kill them as soon as they enter into this one.

Alma 42 tells us that had Adam been able to eat the fruit from the tree if life it would have destroyed the plan of salvation. Why? Because Adam would have lived forever and not been subject to justice. It really makes no sense when thought about carefully and makes the entire plan of God into a big Jigsaw trap from the movie Saw.

Actually, all of Alma 42 is a complete mind “F” when read carefully.

This is why I am bemused by, for example, Adam Miller and Joseph Spence or especially Dan Wotherspoon, who loves to "deep dive" into all things Mormon. They are all very fond of exhibiting how the Book of Mormon (and Mormon theology more generally) can be made to seem mind-numbingly complex and difficult, when in fact it is actually incoherent and illogical unless you read it as it was written: not thinking too deeply about what anything actually means or might imply.

When you do a deep dive into shallow waters, don't be surprised if you hurt your head.

What?

Please tell me this is taken out of context?

Cwald, I'm pretty sure that's a synthetic quote.

Sorry, I'm using a tablet and can't be bothered un ravelling quotes.

1. That tea and coffee can be both a health food and something forbidden and that black licorice and beef liver taste as nasty as hell itself, but are allowable items.

2. That free agency and unwaivering obedience are concomitantly claimed to be necessary for salvation.

(I can't take credit for this, as someone else pointed it out, but:)

Believers say that if there was too much evidence in favor of the Book of Mormon, then our ability to exercise our free agency would be destroyed. Yet somehow we all had our free agency to choose Christ's or Satan's plan in the pre-existence, even though God was right there with us.
