How come the temple signs focus on the method of Jesus' death? That seems in-congruent with the statements that Mormons are focused on his life. Isn't the temple ceremony the most crucial part of Mormonism?

Mormons are focused on the living Jesus. More than any other Christian church i know. It's one of the essential parts of their doctrine.

Temple ceremonies, called Endowments, due to the Mormon faith, are important for eternal covenants and progress in the Celestial Kingdom. I wouldn't call it "crucial" parts, but more necessary steps to achieve progress and to get prepared for the things coming later after this life.

How many christian churches have you been intimately involved with?

I think "crucial" is more than fair. Having been LDS for over 35 years and having been initiated into the temple I think I am capable of making that assessment.
