Mormon carrying a cross to Conference...

I think this is a very novel idea for a man from Paradise, Utah. Bravo. If I were the editor of Senior Living Magazine, I would run a story on this seventy two year old man.

1. Thanks for the correction. Spirit World is certainly the right word.

2. I've once learned that the first resurrection (1. Auferstehung, so called in German) will take place in the Spirit World. The second and final resurrection (die Wiederherstellung), in a physical and perfected body, after the last Judgement. Thus, the life in the Spirit World is oftenly called the first resurrection. About Jesus and his teachings in the Spirit World: I'm referring to section 138, D&C.

3. Mormons focus on his life and his resurrection, not on the instrument of his death. That's why Mormons reject that symbol, not officially, but they do. I've never, never seen a cross in a parish house (and I guess there won't be any in a temple).

Just because I want to learn English: what's the meaning of "mispoke"? I couldn't find an appropriate translation. Thanks in advance.

1. Ah, I see what you are saying. Yes, everyone will be resurrected first spiritually, will live in the spirit world, and then there will be a second resurrection and everyone will by physically resurrected.

What confused me was the language, and that you were referring to Christ.
Christ is actually already resurrected, and so are some choice others who've been called to administer.
Christ goes to whatever world he wants himself, being resurrected he has that power.

2. Not emphasising is not the same thing as "rejecting". We don't have sex in churches or talk about sex either (other than to only do it in marriage), but that doesn't mean we reject sex.
Actually, there are pictures of Christ on the Cross in our Churches, and basically ALL Temples of the Church have the cross as a part of it's Architecture either inside or outside or both. It's not generally seen and obvious, but it's actually there. Pictures also of Christ on the cross are found in the Temple.

Yes, we don't use the Cross generally otherwise, as stand alone objects, etc., but again, it's not our symbolism.

3. That's okay if it was a language issue, not being critical of you for it. That's why I said you mispoke.
Mispoke means making a language or writing error, or didn't understand or relay something correctly. Nothing negative.

ldsfaqs has made the mistake. "misspoke" (like mis-spoke, or misspeaking) makes sense to me, and I wouldn't even have to look for an appropriate translation.

Thanks, Fionn. But your avatar makes me worried. Stop smoking! I've done so about fifteen years ago, after an approx. twenty-six years smoking carreer. It's self-deception, nothing else. Where did you learn German?

Thanks for your answer. Maybe I can see things a bit clearer now. By the way, I've once read in a German Mormon forum that the front door of the new temple in Rome was designed that way, that it shows a cross on it, if you look at it exactly. Maybe that's one of those examples you mean, that temples of the church have a cross as a part of their architecture, not generally seen or obvious. I will look for an image of the temple's front door.

At the moment I can't find the posting with the photo of the entrance door in the German forum I've mentioned.. I've asked for help there, but maybe it will take a while, because it's not a very often frequented forum.

Ya, it's most often common on the Front door of some Temples, but the cross can often be seen in other ways on the outside and inside of buildings.
Many instances in fact. Some are more obvious, some not. But, there clearly is a Architectural direction by the Church to incorporate the cross into the architecture, not stand alone, but part of.

Growing up Mormon, I always though cross jewelry was bad. I had kind of a superstitious type reaction to it. My children are the same way.
