I have to tell you that memorization of scripture was a huge part of my religious experience as a child. I actually won "contests" for it.
All true!
It's not hard for me to recall scripture.

Guys on the thread. Just so you know, I will be off the board for some hours here, so no hurry replying to me if someone wants to and you won't get a response for a good long while.

What, you can't re-read what you wrote?
Here you go, from this thread:
"If you do that, we're going to end up in the church of Jersey and that probably won't end well."
"...but be forewarned, the bus is going to the church of Jersey. "
"Congratulations, you're in the church of Jersey now. "
"That's another church of Jersey topic. "
"I need to make a phone call to an actual Jersey Girl. I'll be back when I am done.
p.s. Yes, there are more like me. ;-)"
There's nothing for you to address, I wasn't making a criticism. Simply pointing out that you reference 'Jersey' a lot in your postings and I was speculating on perhaps that being indicative of my main point about religion being driven by humanities need to congregate.

Jersey Girl wrote:You made the claim that ""Ceeboo was exhorting us to work towards being good". I'm asking you to support that claim, IHAQ.
We are five pages in, I attempted to retrace my steps to ensure I was clear about what Ceeboo was actually saying. Ceeboo didn't come out to play. I was retracing those steps with Ceeboo, not you. So your CFR is only going to get one response from me - if I misspoke and misstated what Ceeboo said or was saying then hey, sue me. I attempted to correct that by starting again, Ceeboo chose not to allow me that. Hey, end of. *shrug*

Jersey Girl, I was obviously confused. I see moderation edits on my posts just now. I was trying to share something with you, and tried to make light of my seriousness by trying to make a joke based on your first mentioning of the topic.
With your desire to discuss everything and it would seem anything, and assuming a friendship, I'm surprised that you took such offense. I thought you were joking back, just making light of the seriousness of what I was trying to say to you. I assumed tough Jersey Girls had no issues talking drugs, sex and R&R as it were, being able to joke about our age would be nothing. Total fail. Please tell me what subjects are off limits for you ... was it a feminist issue ... sex related? What upset you so badly about this? Why would variants of the word menstruation said by me be so much worse than period being used by you?

IHAQ, I've got one foot out the door here, as I said I'll be off the board for some hours. I just looked in and wanted to thank you for listing the references for me.
Let me say this much before I leave. If you want to discuss with someone who is willing to give you a serious go, that can be me. If you want to reach for deeper understanding, I will give you that.
I asked you to make the list of references so I can easily address each one. Yes, I know what I wrote. Yes, I can read what I wrote. How you interpret what you see is another matter entirely.
If you want a response from me regarding your assertions about "Jersey", you're going to have to put up with the fact that I will require an opportunity to fully address your assertions. Thus, the list of refs to work from.
Later...

To be honest, I'd rather discuss the main point of my post, that religion is simply the product of humanity's inbuilt sense that congregating as a tribe aids survival.
Wether you respond to me or not is entirely up to you, please don't think you are doing me a favour by deeming me worthy of your attention. Respond or not based on your own desires.

As I read your post I was reminded that Religion and Spirituality are not synonymous.
I assume many (if not all) have some spark of individual spiritualism which is not tribe based.

That depends on how one is using the term spiritualism. I've seen the term used to describe inner peace, influence of the Holy Ghost and even in reference to actual spirits. But if you're saying that one can be spiritual in ones inner peace etc without the influence of a religion, then I'd be inclined to agree with you.
But the human that doesn't find a way of congregating with others, wether that be neighbourhood, sports team, club, religion, country etc would be a very rare individual. They exist, but they are the extreme minority.
