My pic however is the ACTUAL M249 gun (a non customized one), and it looks in almost every way like the M60, just smaller.

No--they're entirely different; one comes from the USA, while the other comes from Belgium. They fire different cartridges. They employ different mechanisms with no interchangeable parts. Moreover, the M60 is about three decades older than the M249.

I'm well aware they are not the same gun, I'm simply stating that they look similar and the SAW WAS in fact designed after the M60.
The Military wanted a smaller version of it, so they created one. This is not brain surgery.

Compare YOUR PIC of the SAW, with MY PIC of the SAW....
Yours is a customized SAW which looks almost nothing like a SAW, mine is the actual, base/standard design of the SAW.
Mine looks a lot like the M60, yours doesn't. I wasn't comparing the two guns in my photo dingbat, I was comparing YOUR photo of the SAW with mine.

I think it's a given that any discussion involving survivalism and doom preparation has a high probability of devolving into a debate on firearms minutiae.

Okay, so clearly I need to "hand hold" the lying rejects....

1. This is an M60 and a standard configured M249 SAW.
As can be seen, they look basically the same, especially if seen from a distance.
This was my comparison, of the actual SAW with the M60.



2. This is an M60 and a customized special forces M249 SAW.
As can be seen, they look almost nothing alike.
This was the ignorant anti-mormon comparison of the SAW with the M60, him having no clue it was customized.



So, who's telling the truth? Not the anti-mormon as usual.
While obvioiusly there are differences between the standard SAW and the M60, if one isn't able to look close like we can in these pics, and it had been some time since one had actually operated such a weapon 20 years, or really looked at them, one COULD reasonably say they look a lot of like. Further, the history of the two guns is still correct as I stated. The SAW was made to be like the design and function of the M60, to replace it, but be smaller and lighter. Thus, they would have a similar look and design.

Either way, who's SAW looks closest to the M60? Mine by far. That is more or less what I worked with.
by the way, the middle part of my SAW has the drop down hand grip the same as the M60, it's just not showing.
Also, the M60 has the top handle, as the SAW does, it's just "turned" or removed in this pic. They ARE in fact nearly the same type of designed and looking gun.

Anyway, all this started simply because I misidentified Rambo's gun as being a SAW, when it was actually an M60.
I corrected myself, and then the anti-mormon had to tell me they look nothing like each other, by posting a customized version of the SAW (which correctly doesn't look at all like an M60), instead of the actual standard SAW (which does look a lot alike). So, I then had to correct that ignorance by showing the actual SAW, which does look like a baby M60 with only minor design differences.

A true comparison between the two guns would be like comparing a 1911 Colt 45 with a Beretta 9mm.
Obviously different guns, having some design differences, but they also look alot alike.
Comparing a Beretta with a Glock like the anti-mormon did is off in neverland, they look nothing alike.

Again, he posts a pic that is not the standard SAW design, then claimed they look nothing alike (which is correct).
I then post a pic of what the actual SAW looks like, and it looks greatly like the M60.

So again, where am I wrong here? I'm not the one who posted a customized SAW pic and made incorrect comparisons.
I posted the actual SAW pic, showing they are greatly similar. Further, anyone that reads the history of the development of the SAW will see that it was specifically designed to be as the 60, but a smaller/ighter replacement, a more practical individual carry machine gun.

Ok. So we have a stolen valor situation here. LDSFaqs makes some pretty loud claims about being a Marine at one point in his life.

However, he has failed to do the following:

1) Prove that he posted a pic on this forum of him in Marine attire from his service over 20 years ago. I've done a search and can't find a pic on this forum.

2) Failed to provide a D.D. form 214, which is proof of service.

3) Recognize or distinguish a SAW from an M60E3 until it was pointed out. In fact, the short barrel version is the version that is generally issued to the Army (I don't know about the Marines), and isn't relegated to Special Forces (they modify their weapons at will, anyway).

Him confusing the SAW with M60E3 is akin to a former Soldier confusing the M16A2 with the M4. It's nonsense.

4) Failed to explain his discharge that would correlate with his claims of service.

5) Failed to provide any sort of identifying unit information that would verify his service.

Until proven otherwise, I'm calling BS on Mr. Faqs. He could easily prove his service, but his outbursts and obfuscation only tell us what we already know: He is lying.

I don't really care whether or not he served, but him lying about his service in order to garner some sort of weird credibility is dishonest nonsense.
